Hello, I plan on buying the gm s/c and have some exhaust questions first. I want to do a full custom exhaust, but I don't know what to look for. Any tips and suggestions would be great also. I searched some, but this is way easier to get all my questions answered. I want this exhaust to be pretty quiet (no louder than stock) so I can really hear my s/c and not buzzing or popping or anything like that.
-I am thinking a full 2.5" custom bent system done by an exhaust shop.
-What is everyones fav header (pacesetter armor coated?)
-Should I get a high-flow cat like RK's?
-What is everyones choice for resonator (or muffler for a resonator) to really quiet things down and what length?
-What is a recommended muffler (quiet, oval canister, magnaflow maybe?)
-I would like to get everything in a polished stainless for looks.
-What is everyones fav exhaust shop
-I like
Dave Dunsmoor's exhaust, but it's still too loud.
Parts I am looking at:
Magnaflow Resonator Part Number: 10435
Magnaflow Muffler ????
Magnaflow 4" Rolled Edge Tip PN: 35136
Custom Bent 2.5" Stainless Pipe
High flow cat
Pacesetter Armor Coated Header
Thanks for looking and please help me out.
First off, any performance exhaust will be louder than stock. Heres a list of what you will want for a quiet system.
Pacesetter armor-coated header
Magnaflow cat 93036
Magnaflow round muffler 14406
Magnaflow oval muffler 14576 <---big, but it will fit and quiet down the exhaust a lot
Magnaflow tip of your choice
Thanks for the responce. Is this your system? If it is and you have vids or pics could you post them? If I went with this system, will I still be able to hear the s/c? Also, what kind of bend should I use on the piping?
Nevermind, I saw that is not your system. However, I can't find the round muffler 14406 on the magnaflow website (that one is the resonator right).
You should have no problem hearing the S/C with the system I listed. I have a 2200 with the Pacesetter header, stock cat, 30" Magnapack resonator that I got before Magnaflow stopped making them, and a Borla turbo xl muffler. Its very quiet compared to alot of the systems i've heard. From idle to about 2500 i can hear the exhaust, and after that the exhaust note basically fades away and all I can hear is the motor, which is the way i like it. Sound level wise, i would say it compares to that of a 350Z. Its there and noticable, but not loud at all. As far as piping goes, i'd stick with either compression or mandrel bends.
oh, my bad. its 14416. Typo!!!!
Wow, 350Z?? That would sound so sweet; I know what you mean by that though and that is exactly how I want it to sound. What is the difference between the two bends?
Also, couldn't find the cat
smoothness in the pipes. i believe compression bends create wrinkles in the inside of the bend... and that will trap exhaust gasses, creating less flow, therefore less horsepower. so i myself would stick with mandrel bends... because its A LOT smoother than compression bends...
good luck dude!
^^^you're thinking of crush bends. Compression bends tend to make the tubes more of an oval shape through the bends. Mandrel is smooth thoughout the bends and doesn't lose the tubular shape. Just to clarify what I was saying earlier, it doesn't necessarily sound like a 350Z, but the sound level is about the same. Yours may be a bit louder since I have the stock cat and only 2.25" piping. Also, I made another typo when I gave you the part # for the cat. It is 43036. Its a obd-2 compliant cat so theres a minimal chance of a CEL popping up.
