Well i am going to post this here being that i have this issue with the HO Mani swap and a certain code....
Vehicle: 1997 Chevrolet Cavalier Z24 2.4L
About 3 weeks ago i went turbo and did a HO mani swap.....car ran good the first week and then started to die....
the car seems like it wants to die at times but it seem like its searching for and idle...... the RPM's will lope from 500-1500 RPM's...but if i put it in neutral and tap the throttle it will gather itself..but now it seems that putting in neutral isnt doing anymore ( aleast not all the time )
The car ran great all last week with some minor lopeing problems but nothing a quick tap of the throttle could'nt cure
I get a CEL form time to time with a P0507 IAC System HI RPM.....i have the 56mm TB and 2.3L TPS and 2.3L IAC......im almost thinkin that i have to use the 2.4L IAC and swap plungers......has anyone else encountered this problem......
The car runs like scalded dog when accelerating, out of the hole or just normal cruising..
If i back into a parking spot and tap the throttle once to get moving the car will just fall on it face ( but not all the time)
IAC Motor is a new ACDelco.....
It does seem like the heat up and stall situation but something tells me maybe the IAC CKT...i already replaced the O2 sensor
i have no vacuum leaks and everything is sealed where the Mani meets the head....i have the phenolic adapted and everything worked out well...
Right now i am getting aggrivated when this happens........alomst planning on going back the the 2.4 manifold or just swap the 2.4 TB on the HO mani......
anyone have any ideas.....thanks in advance...
P.S. sorry if its long....im sure i could explain further if noone could understand me....i tried to give you all the info at once..
are you using the 2.3lho throttle positioner sensor if your not you should be. if you using the 2.3l ho t/b you should use all the 2.3lho sensors. but sound like a vacuum leak or you dont have your map sensor hooked up it needs to be on the manifold its self not the t/b
o yeah mine got a a( iac idle higher than exspected ) code when i had a leak so i would cheak for leaks if no leak map sensor
I am usingall 2.3L sensors and the map is directly to the manifold....this problem only seems to be when its hot......when cold it fine and have no issues....but like i said it doesnt do it all the time.......ill use the smoke machine at work to check for a vacuum leak but im pretty confident that everything is sealed up......has anyone else swapped plungers on the IAC.......i read it on NY J-Bodies site.......just curious ....... maybe i do have a vacuum leak.....ill have to dig into it.......
yeah i actually had the 2.4l iac on mine for a while swaped it to a 2.3l no diff. i would almost bet its a leak then even if you dont find it with that fogger you have to do somthing take it off and redo it. if that doesnt fix it i dont know what to tell you
well i used the smoke machine this afternoon and injected the smoke directly into the port for the brake booster and blocked off the opeing for the TB....both intake gaskets are good(phenolic adapter flange)......not leaks at the TB gasket....but i did notice smoke coming out from behind the TPS and on the opposite side......seems to me that i have a slight and i mean slight vacuum leak from the bushings/seals for the shaft running through the TB..........if i look at my scanner my idle RPM is about 650-700....which seem normal.....if i try to move the shaft back and forth, up and down with out giving it throttle i can feel and hear a difference in engine idle....i cleared the light and sprayed carburator spray behind the TPS and on the opposite side to see if the vehicle would stubble or anything.....it did not....but everytime i cleared the light and sprayed carb spray on it the light would come on for the same code....i think im gonna swap my 2.4L TB to see if the light stays off for awhile.....
could that slight of a vacumm leak that is not noticeable cause the vehicle to stall, stutter and erratic idle.....
seems like it wouldnt but anything is possible.....
ok this it what you do its how i checked mine anyways just slap you hand over the end of the t/b and if the car dies no leak if the car keeps running you have a leak. cuz when you block the end of the t/b there is know where for the car get air from but if there is a leak the car will suck air from the leak. thats how i knew i had a leak. if that if theres not leak try somthing with the iac or tps
Their is a leak, and yes, that small of a leak can cause things to jump around like that. i threw the exact same code when one of my hoses cracked. i had a really messed up idle for a while (just jumped around here and there a little) then after a while of not being able to figure it out one day it was horrilble and i had a cel code, rpm one like you did, and i popped the hood and my hose was cracked. after fixing that, my problem went away.
Want to revive the thread, I just did my HO swap about 2 weeks ago. Car ran perfect until about a day ago. I'll be cruising down the road and the car will idle between 700-1200 back and forth and then stop. I went home put my foot on the brake as far as I could and gave it gas while it was in drive. The car died almost instantly. I checked all my vaccum lines and there are no cracks and I sprayed brake cleaner on them and the car didnt respond that that any. And sometimes when I put the car in reverse it will die when I let off the gas. Did any of you have this problem? My CEL is not on but I went ahead and scanned it and came up with (P0507 Idle Control System RPM High). Could this be a vaccum leak somewhere that I can't find? Any ideas as where to check?

Sorry you need into I got a 97 Z24 Auto with 2.3 intake mani and 2.3 tb and im using all the 2.3 sensors.

I took my intake off and started the car, it took it a sec longer to start witht he intake off. Don't know if that means anything or not. I put my hand over the TB opening to see if it died, it started to idle real low stuttered and died. Does this mean I dont have a leak? If I don't have a leak would it just be my MAP Sensor?

Hey thanks for everybody's help! But I figured out my problem, my boost line had a crack in the casing so I taped it up and my idle problem fixed itself. Used my OBD II scanner and all systems clear!
