used header bought for $40

So last weekend I bought a header for my wife's 2200 OHV for $40. It was in pretty crappy shape, rusted and dirty and such, but other than that seemed like it'd be ok. I'm not 100% sure what kind it is although I'm thinking it might be a Pacesetter. However, I just thought this was funny:

OK, so we sanded the hell outta it and I got some VHT Flame Proof paint and painted it today. Then it says that you should cure the paint, first 250 degrees for a half hour, then a half hour cooling, then 400 degrees for 1/2 hour, cool for 1/2 hour, then 600 for 1/2 hour, then cool again. Lemme tell you, this @!#$ stinks! All the windows are open and fans are on. (and yes, I know our oven is dirty...)

Before someone says that paint won't hold up, I did this with the headers I put on my car as well (although I never baked them...) and the paint has held up pretty well - perhaps the baking will make it even better (I know it's not the same as ceramic coating but it'll look a lot better than they would have). The header also had a cat welded to the downpipe already - when we cleaned it off, we discovered under the dirt and crap it says "Catco" on it as plain as day. So I'd say, for a 4-2-1 header and a Catco cat, $40 isn't too bad...

Looks like its coming along pretty good. And yes, for $40, a header and cat is one hell of a steal. Good job!

You should never bake that stuff in your kitchen oven, you're food will never taste right again.

It looks good, but I would have just painted it and put it on tacky then ran the car hard for 15 minutes and let it sit.

I thought about that...but honestly it didn't taste quite right before as it was. The whole oven/range is far older than I am, one of the burners doesn't work, it doesn't really keep a constant temperature inside...we pointed it out to our landlord to have it fixed/replaced, so maybe he will at some point...

The baking's done, looks pretty hardened, but I'm sure not touching it yet...lol

I bake downpipe wrap in the oven all the time. One time I even made a pizza bellow it while a downpipe was cooking. It tasted great.

I don't think I'd have gone as far as making a pizza while I did this, of course there wouldn't have been room anyways.

But the pot pie I made a while ago seemed just fine. I think...

You should have washed it in the dishwasher first...
