Well I found a great deal on an Ecotec motor/tranny with the harness, puter, and all accessories and I was wondering if 3" exhaust would be good if I were to slap the GM charger on there. I'm not to familiar with superchargers so I'm not sure what the best exhaust setup would be if I ran the charger. Any help is greatly appricated.
Thanks,
-Paul
a lot of people are happy with 2.5'', but people have used 3.
once more people with experience come on with superchargers, they will help you out a bit more.
Thanks for the input Jason
3" would be a little big
2 1/4" or 2 1/2" would be alot better
From what I am seeing, 2.5" would be the best. Should I run a resonator, high-flow cat, and muffler, or what? I dont have emissions in Michigan to worry about
If you're going to boost, go with 2.5''. If not, go with 2.25''. If you do an exhaust, complete it with header, cat, resonator (perforated core), and muffler of your choice.
Actually I was going to pick up a Magnaflow resonator and muffler today, and I am going to order a pacesetter armor header and cat-co high flow cat.
2.5" or 2.75" with a supercharger depending on how well your head flows. obviously there's no turbine to get the restriction off so you dont really need 3" but with any forced induction, you dont need the velocity to pull low end torque, so you just have to worry about unrestricted flow. plus with that much more air entering the engine, you have that much more exiting also....so you need room to let it flow freely.

450WHP Turbo Ecotec swap in the works...
for the setup, what i would do is have that system custom built, with all the parts ur thinkin of, headers, cat, resonator, muffler in 2.5 for flow, but not too much for the engine... but after the header, and before the cat, i would buy an exhaust cut and just have it welded up inbetween the 2... and when u run strip, run open exhaust(open the cut out) and on the street, have it closed for the full exhaust. with an open exhaust ull get much more flow and less restriction than you would with a full system...
just somethin to think about. and if you feel like buying a set of 2(2nd one just in case, or if you feel like COMPLETELY blocking off the system when closed, Mooneyes sells a set of 2, electronically controlled cut outs...
here!!!... in both, 2.5" or 3" piping, which is good for whichever you decide... its a bit pricey, but if you dont wannt crawl under your car to open the cut, hell why not? lol. or you could go the cheaper route and look at summit's regular exhaust cuts for like 40 bux or so... if im not mistaken.
good luck with whatever u choose dude!
Im running 2 1/4 on my m62 and my girlfriend is also 2 1/4 on her m45 and neither are having a hard time
Thanks for the info. I'm kinda leaning towards 2.5" since thats what most people have and that would let the engine breath since it will have the charger blowing more air into it.
Thanks again,
-paul
