I've decided to change my muffler because the magnaflow street series 5x8x14 one I have on now is too raspy for me (even with a 25" resonator). Now I've heard a lot of good things about dynomax and their super turbo mufflers and I was thinking about getting one the 20" ones. I know the flow isn't straight through but will this really hurt the performance on my 2.25" header back system?

no it wount really hurt you and you will love the sound it will be very quiet.

Just curious, what tip did you get with it?

"Kneel before ZOD!!!"
i want to know is the ultra flo ss performance is louder or a little louder than the super turbo one?? and what kind of tip looks good with that? an angle cut?
I'm curious about the ultra flow ss too, I've got it down to either that or the super turbo but can't decide which one to get. Either way I'm looking for one that is at least 20".

"Kneel before ZOD!!!"
me too but i one to know if to get one how long and the measures of the mufflers that i need to get so the sound is not loud or annoying.
darkbladej what was the part # of the muffler you got?

there was an online site that tested a bunch of different aftermarket mufflers on a mustang, and I remember that the ultra flo wasn't more than 8 db louder than the super turbo, and that was only under full acceleration. In all other aspects they were within a few db's of eachother. Both are fairly quiet mufflers apparently.
Here's that Mustang compairison site:
http://racetruck.tripod.com/muffler.html The UltraFlo S.S. sounds great, but I would suggest adding a glasspack resonator to the mix to take the dB level down a bit.

THat is interesting the dB levels of the ultra flow were less than the SuperTurbo

I think it has to do with the flow characteristics since the cores are different.
That site is reviewing the muffler on a Mustang, much different sound than on our 4 cylinder cars. dB levels could be completely different.

i personally have:
pacesetter header, 25" thrush resonator, 2.25 piping, and the 14" super turbo 2.25. when i get to 3k rpm or so, the muffler gives a lot of interior resonance. overall its a quiet setup, but there is way too much resonance at 3k rpm. so what i'm gonna do is change it out for another super turbo, just the 20" version. hopefully this one will go better, i'll let you know how it turns out.

^ how would you know, didn't you have duals? there's a big difference with duals. my friend's car was loud as hell with 2.5" duals.
i had VERY little interior resonance on the stock piping and the same 14" super turbo. i'll try it out, and if not, i'll either live with it, or figure something else out.

I just picked up my 14" super turbo and I'm getting it installed soon. Viper are you supercharged? I'm trying to figure out if the system will be louder on a supercharged car versus a non supercharged car because I have the same setup as you and I'm looking for quiet and low resonance.

^ did you keep the 2.5" piping after the Y, or did u reduce it?

^The Dynomax mufflers were 2.5in and so was all the piping. After the Y-pipe, it is all 2.5in as well.
I am in the process to get a RKS header, 2-1/4in all the way, with dual Quiet-flows--if I ever get the part numbers.

maybe it would quiet down if you reduced the size after the Y pipe, to like 2 or 2.25.

i heard a super turbo recording ( i dont remember the web page i downloaded).
it was installed on a civic. there were the stock sound and the one with the super turbo installed (the sound was from the inside from the my knowlegde)
with the super turbo you can hear the sound a little more deeper than the stock one.
i had a good sound.
I know is a civic but is a 4cyl so it should be a little more close to our cars than the mustang.
