hey everybody... well my engine took a crap on me yesterday... I have about 40 lbs of compression in cyl. #2 and im sure its not worth rebuilding... Ive looked into the 2.3HO engine swap a Bit and im very interested... I Have a 96 cavi 2dr 2.2 ohv 5spd and i want to know everything i need... computer, wiring harness??? im clueless and i want it bad... also if i need another tranny... if so which one is best i want...no i "NEED" a manual trans... lol and a list of a few possible cars to pull the parts out of would be nice.... THANKS
The only donor car for parts that will definitely keep everything working is a 1995 2.3 J-car.
you will need: the engine harness, mounts, coolant hoses, PCM.
Any 2.3/2.4 trans can work (and only a 2.3/2.4 trans will bolt up), but an Isuzu trans will match all the external parts you now have (shift linkage, clutch hydralics, etc)

to explain further so youll know....the early quad HOs were mated with a 5speed getrag that only had ONE transmission mount, this is because the engine block had an extra front mount....as you know your J has NO front block mount and has TWO tranny mounts...in 92 the HO getrag was altered abit...it then came with better gear ratios,TWO mounts, and some even had an LSD straight from the factory....so if you get a 93-94 ( SOME 92's) getrag itll bolt right up in your car..youll have a stronger tranny, better gear ratio's and if your lucky an LSD(but dont press your luck
) ..just remember this...youll NEED the rear tranny mount from an isuzu and the front mount that comes with the HO getrag...this combo will allow you to bolt it up.....
and as far as your stock fuel pump...yes..itll be fine..fuel LINES however may be a differnt story, i dont know too much about the 2.2 fuel lines in the engine bay so ill have to look into that for you...i know the ones in the 2.4 will work finebut all youll need to make it work is the engine, tranny, pcm and wiring from a 2.3 equipped 1995 Jbody..um...the rear tranny mount from the isuzu, and coolant lines INCLUDING the water pump housing on the back of the 95 2.3(which i believe to be the same as any 2.4..can anyone verify? )
