Someone told me that you should soak lifters for a day or so in oil before use... Is this true?

Did you do anything to upgrade the lifters or just using stockers? I hope you got new ones if you put a new cam in.

yea you have to sock hydraulic lifters in like 5-30 oil for at least 3 or 4 days to let the oil set in them so that they pump up when you start the car and if you dont you can damage them and will have to replace them all in not ot long.

no, you don't have to soak the cam.... its a solid piece of metal, what's it going to absorb? hydro lifters are hollow and use oil pressure to adjust valve lash automatically.
you DO want to coat it in assemply lube first though...
