Well, I dont think I have seen this discussed on here, and I am at the point where I dont want to trust the 2.4 oil system on my built motor, so....the question is, should I bear down and try to find a machine shop taht will do the 2.3 oil pump conversion, OR should I buy JBP High Output Oil Pump and their cross-drilled crank. I called JBP today to discuss this with them, and he said that the 2.3 oil pump conversion is way too much work, and they are building 3 2.4 turbo's right now, which one of them is a really radical build in his terms, and he said they are using their oil pump on all of them with their cross-drilled crank.

I want to hear some intelligent responses now....no guesses
i would go with the 2.3 set up, even if its more works.
but thats me.....

Thats my friends motor. He knows what he needs because MEV at jbp knows whats going on with this motor. GET THE JBP PUMP, don't cheap out, it's the best thing for your motor, and if it's already built i'd absolutely HATE to see it go to waste.
get it , and forget it .
as for the crank, I'd assume my friend is also getting it. Another GREAT mod.
I don't know too much about it ..

here is what Protomec said in a post:

The reason for doing the 2.3 swap is to improve the oil pump, removing the balance shafts is just a bonus in the process.
The 2.4 sucks at high rpm.
The 2.4 pump is a Melling pump from the factory.
Melling does not make a High Volume (flow) 2.4 pump. Nor does anyone else no matter what they claim.
JBP may sell High Pressure version of the pump. This is the same pump with a washer or 2 placed over the relief spring to increase its tension. This increases output pressure, but not high RPM volume. Lack of volume is the problem that needs to be corrected.

I dont think people do the 2.3L oil pump swap b/c they are cheap. They do it for the increased flow, and like posted about the bonus of removing the balance shafts.
