I have a 2000 Sunfire 2.2 that i dont drive and my daily driver is a 2000 GaGt. Im thinking about putting the 2.0lt. engine out of a RSX Type S in the sunfire. but i have to wait until my uncle gets back from China because he knows alot more about imports and he is going to do all the custom work. The reason that im doing this is becasue the motor has good base power(201hp). Right now the sunfire is completly gutted and the motor is in the garage because i was going to start building up t he stock 2.2 but after my buddy let me drive his 2001 RSX Type S. i loved the high reving engine. And i figured that this engine would be a lot better canadidate to build power from than my 2.2 because im onlly looking to get around 300 hp when done.
I figured that im going to hear it from the haters that i sould not put a import engine in a domestic but i like the advantages of the i-VTEC engine rather than say the 2.0 ecotec in a cobalt SS which was the other engine swap i was thinking about doing. But then i seen that it only produced 205hp with a supercharger. and the RSX 2.0 is NA and puts out 201.
The cost of the project is not that big of a deal because i just got a settlement for an accident awhile ago so i have enough to do it plus most of the work will be done by me and my uncle so only thing i have to pay for is the motors, and trannys.
I was just curious what everyone thought and i wanted to hear some feed back u know so maybe i could head off any problems before i got into the build.
if money isn't a big deal. why not buy/put a down payment on a RSX type S instead of putting for so much effort? you'd have a better looking, better handling, better engineered, better resale, better quality car...
GO PATS!!!
^ What he said. Besides, the LD9 has something the K20 doesnt have... Torque..
Because i already have a sunfire and a Grand Am GT i dont need another car i like the way my sunfire looks and plus i put down a down payment on a house. I meant that i have enough money to do a full build on a car not buy a new one. And when u pull up next to an RSX u know that is pushing 200 hp i want a sleeper/ Also sorry about the Subject line i ment RSX.
if you want a sleeper and have money to throw around, do a SC 3800 swap...
or if you have a lot of money laying around, convert to RWD and put in a real motor with 8 cylinders...
GO PATS!!!
it'll be ALOT cheaper and easier to swap in a S/C 3800 from a gran prix GTP or other car with that motor and youd have roughly 265hp and close to 300 ft lbs tq far more performance potential then that honda motor and those numbers are stock you can add nitrous, heat exchanger, intercooler, etc
and it would definitely be a sleeper
The one, the only, ME.
Correct me if im wrong but the LD9 has that torque because of the S/C. If i put a s/c on the K20 it would boost the torque to and maybe over the already S/C LD9
i thought about the 3800sc from a grand prix but i though engine bay room might be a factor is that true?
If you have the cash I say go for it. Be sure to post a progress thread. People talk about these things all the time on here, but no one ever follows through. Good luck.

there is enoguh room for the engine. people have done the swap
Im a Xbox 360 fanboy...and damn proud of it!!
I cannot start the build until next month because that is when my uncle gets back but i just started shopping around for the Rsx engine last week. But i can get a hold of the Cobalt Engine right now but im not sure if i want it. i dont think in wanna go with the 3800sc because i like the high revs of the Rsx engine, im not sure what the 3800 specs and redline are but i dont think i wanna go with the 3800.
How about a saab 2.0L engine and turbo? 210hp stock. Turn up the boost and see what happens....
or swap in an 2.2 ecotec. slap a turbo on that and turn it up to 14 psi

I am not that familiar with a saab so i probabaly would not wanna go that route

WHAT?? The LD9 is the 2.4L Twin Cam motor... there is no S/C stock... It has 150 HP and 150 FT/LBS... with the S/c that you can buy and add on it goes to around 190HP but I'm not sure on the torque number with the S/C though... I'm not sure what you are thinking of but it's not the LD9...
Knowledge about everything and yet an expert of nothing!!
Jack of all trades.
to swap in the rsx motor your looking at $7000 at LEAST for 200hp and NO TORQUE
to swap in the 3800 s/c v6 your looking at $5000-$7000 for 300hp and TORQUE... haha
you make the decision. if I were you, I'd crave some REAL numbers with the 3800 s/c.

i can get a K20(rsx motor) for 5g's. But alot of people seem to be suggesting the 3800sc i really didnt wanna go with a V6 but i was wondering if anyone could tell me how hard it would be to put the V6 in my small sunfire. Also would u have to upgrade the suspension to put in the heavier V6 engine.? The custom work is not problem but i really did not wanna tear into it to much if i didnt have to that is why i wanted to go with the smaller i4 k20 engine.
do a member search for Raven. hes done the swap.
the RSX swap would cost more then what you want to spend. and i havent heard anybody of doing a RSX motor swap into a j-body. youd be the first and it probaly wont even get complete. at least with the 3800 youd know that it works and people ahve done it

The 3800SC will be an easier install than the K20. Many more people have done the 3800 swap so there is plenty of info out there.

i probably will go with the 3800 i just sent an email to raven and i waiting to get some more info about the build up. Im still interested to see what people think about the K20 install but im waitng to hear from raven before i make my descision
The K20 install would be such a huge headache compared to the 3800.
... I don't think he gets it ,
people have made custom harnesses for the 3800 swap, your k20 just won't work, or $10000 later it might, every system in the car will need to be changed, from cluster, to shifter linkage. you can use your fire tranny and get a custom flywheel made. RACETECH AUTOMOTIVE SELLS THOSE FLYWHEELS FOR THE SWAP. makes it 1000000% easier.
