2.2 Engine Block The Same From 95 To 97?
Wednesday, February 15, 2006 10:33 PM
I have 95 2.2 Cavalier and a motor from a 97 2.2 Cavalier and I wanted to strip the block build the motor up slowly for my 95, I know all the sensors would be different but is everything else essentially the same?

PS I posted this in the maintenance forum but got no useful response, so I apologize in advance for double posting

From what I've heard, the BLOCK (but not cam) is the same from about 94 to extinction...
There's info on what was changed during what years in the ny-jbody.org site's library

The website doesn't really give a clear definition but one thing I don't understand is...

Quote:

1996: Chevy switched to sequential port fuel injection on the 2.2L in ‘96, so there is a large open hole with a small threaded one beside it on the passenger side for the cam position sensor that was used to sequence the fuel injectors correctly. The 1996 block, c/n 24574521, still had the shallow (0.390") mounting pads for the early lifter guides, but it can be used up through 1999 as long as the matching lifter guides are provided with the engine.

I thought the fuel injection set-up was the same from 94-97, and then it changed when the 2200 came out. I'm probably wrong but I have 95, 96, and 97 cavalier and to me the only differences were OBD I to OBD II from the 95-96

you are correct about the fuel injection set up being the same 94-97, as in they are side feed injectors and use the same hardware, but they changed to sequential (the timing of the injector firing) in 96, before that i believe it was a batch fire set up, (meaning 2 injectors fire at the same time) in 98 they switched the hardware to use topfeed injectors and such.

i hope i explained that well enough
