Hey guys,
I've got a 2000 Chevy Cavalier, Not to much done to it, but my plans are HUGE~!
But my problem is i get the worst gas mileage ever. The only things i have done are Bosch Platinum 2 spark plugs, intake and exhaust for exhaust i have the stop piping, but i have the cat emptied out, nothing in it. The resonator is cut out, but besides that just a cheap can i got from NAPA, i know stupid idea, but it sounds really really nice. sense its winter i have the stock air box on with a K&N drop in air filter, i get like on average 22 MPG. which has to be the worst ever. I bought the O2 simulator, and its defective, but i get the check engine light shut off, and the gas mileage gets better, but then it just gets bad again. If anyone has any ideas, what can be done, or what is wrong, fill me in.
Thanks

man i must be one lucky SOB, my z gets about 27-29 mpg right now and i drive about 80% city and a little highway, half the time the "highway" is stop and go.
so far all i have done is header, full 2.25 exhaust , cosmo wai. and 56mm TB. and the kopni sport kit drop.
on my 99 2200 i was getting 35-37 with almost the same mods but way more highway miles and with a manual.
when was the last time you changed the fuel filter or cleaned the air filter? tire pressure? suspension shot? maybe try a shot of seafoam through the tb and a can in the tank to clean out those injectors. good luck, i wouldbe all over my car if i dropped that low in mpg right now.
umm do like 50 -55 on cruise on the highway and that shuld improve it. get rid of the bosch plugs cuz they suck. pick up some AC Delcos. and probably what you have done to your exhaust could be causing it as well
well if the problem is my exhaust, what could be done to change it.
Thanks for the tip about the Bosch, i probobly will switch back to AC Delcos.
so if you got any ideas for the exhaust, please inform me, thanks

well what the hell is stop piping, do you mean stock piping? i guess the only real problem in your exhaust is the cat. did you take out the catalyst from inside it, are you getting any CEL's? if you have the piping done, then get the magnaflow hi flow cat. if you are gonna stay stock, then get a stock cat.
maybe after you change the plugs you' ll be better.
yea, STOCK pipe, sorry, Well the only CEL i get is the P0420. but that only comes on when the Check engine light comes on, and that is about once a month. For right now im gonna stay stock, you know how college its spendy, and my job dont pay to well. I thought the O2 Simulator was suppose to take care of all that crap? I dont really feel like paying 189 bucks for a Cat. any other ideas, Im not being sassy, im just trying to look at all sides of the problem and all sides of the solutions of it too
Thanks

get the cat off ebay. i say just get the 94035 cat from magnflow. itll be like $60- 70 shipped. then just get it welded on. and if that o2 sim aint working right, then take it off.
I have an '03 Cavilier 5sp, and i get 32 to/from work and it's stop & go. I get 38 on
the highway at 75mph. I do "short shift" it in town, usually shifting at 2500rpm,
either right when the "shift-me" light comes on or right before. I've done a few
mods, AEM cold air intake, PaceSetter 4-1 ceramic header and removed the
resonator. Stock muffler, Cat & other tubing. 40K on the car thus far.
i drove my cavy from ohio to louisiana and i got 40+ mpg using regular unleaded. i get 16-19 in the city though. If you have ever been to post-katrina baton rouge, you would understand...AKA traffic sucks.
BTW- i have no cruise and i was going about 75-80 the whole way. 5 speed tranny as well
