i have an '04 cavi. ecotec, about 3 months ago i put mobil 1 supersyn oil in my car. 5w30. since ive put it in my gas mileage has dropped from 26-28 mpg, too about 20-22 mpg. i was wondering if anyone else has had this problem.
huh?
I've never heard of this happening..
how many miles does your engine have?
19k. ive read about people having problems with the gas in the winter. but i dont think it has anything to do with that.

Doesn't sound right at all...

You are probably just experiencing a change in the gas formulas, your calculations are off, or your driving habits are not the same.
I was a retard, and now I'm permanently banned.
Can't think of any reason a particular oil would cause that... even if it wasn't circulating right or not lubricating something right and causing resistance/friction, and thus reducing gas mileage. Besides, if that were the case, you'd definitely know, and fuel mileage would be the last thing on your mind. Odd...
Best I can come up with is let the car idle more before you start driving in this cold weather... I let my LD9 warm up for as much as 10 minutes before dirving, and it makes one hell of a difference. Not only in mileage, but overall operation, performance, and smoothness.
or you put the oil down the intake....
hey i knew a girl that tried to change her own oil and did that crap haha
ten minute warm is a bit much dont you think? bad for the environement too. i warm mine up two minutes min to five max then the gauge is starting to climb ever so slightly. i also think some gas stations stop filling at certains points so your not getting as mush fuel as another one. stick to one and see, and corect me if im wrong, does the temperature efect how much gas you get? more dense or something? or changes the pumps metres? i think it says it on the pump.
If anything M1 supersyn would gain you MPG, because its such a light weight 5w-30, its on the lighter end compared to most conventional oils.
Ive been running it since day 1 in my ecotec and its been nothing but great, i do extended drain intervals with good results.

You can let the thing "warm up" for 6 hours and it would still be just as bad as 5 mins. A car is only in open loop until the after cat O2 starts reading, then it goes into closed loop.
There is a difference in winter blend fuel in some areas of the world. Ex- the northeast US uses a different blend than pretty much everywhere else (thats why its more expensive, or could it be that the oil companies just mark it up and say its different....hmmmm). Yes air temp will effect mileage, but not to the extent chris is talking about.
Chris- when you did your math, did you estimate the gallons, or use what the pump read?
i used the amount the pump said it took to fill up.
