Has anyone out there tried this catback system?
Jegs Catback System]JegsCatbackSystem
....(Tried to post a link to it , dont know if it worked though) If anyone has i was wondering if you could tell me what kind of sound to expect from it. Im really just interested in freeing up a few miles per gallon, since the car is my daily commuter and i drive more than 100 miles round trip to work everyday. I just dont want the excessive sound some of these systems produce. Its reasonably priced and id really like the appearance of dual tips coming out the back. Any input on this would be greatly appreciated, (oh btw if youve experienced any performance gains , let me know about that too!) Thx -Whoy202
according to your profile you have a 98... on the jegs site its says that catback is for 2nd gens w/ the ol 2.0L so yea won't fit any 3rd gen.

It mentions The 3rd gens but I still would trust it. You can't fit an 3rd gen pre-made exhaust on a second gen unless you modify it. Also, I'd question the quality of the exhaust system as far as what type of piping they use.
Stick with companies like Magnaflow, Thermal and Borla (If you find them used since they were discontinued).

I meant wouldn't trust it...sorry

It does say "97-98 All", but it does sound a bit fishy to me, i wish they would go into more detail on the product, at least a picture or something.. Maybe ill contact them and see whats up. Thanks for the input guys.
it will fit all the cars listed. i had it on my 94 sunbird. the pieces are long so you can cut them to fit. its a little raspy when could but sounded pretty good on my crappy 2.0 bird
I used to race cars, now I race myself.

i have a 99 cavalier Z24 and bought this, and it fit pretty much perfect. It has a nice deep loud tone to it and the dual tips look great, also my gas mileage stayed the same. But i did run into the law a few times with it. So you do whatever you want to do.
You say its got a deep tone huh? Im cool with that, but if its loud enough to get you in trouble with the local authorities, maybe ill pass on it. Let me ask you this though, do you still have a catalytic converter? Do you have a header? Thanks for the info.
Every exhaust will sound different even on cars with similar engines and aftermarket components. If you're worried about an exhaust being loud, purchase a resonator and have a shop weld it up for you with the setup you bought. A resonator goes after the cat but before the muffler and it smooths out and deepens the tone and lowers the volume of the exhaust by absorbing sound waves. Make sure to look for a resonator with a perforated core instead of a louvered core, I heard louvered cores can experience power loss. Event, a member here, so far has fit the largest resonator on a J that I've heard of, either 31" or 32". The size you want depends on what your preferences are; the longer the resonator, the greater the impact on exhaust sound.
With that said, I wouldn't look at Jegs' cat-backs simply because they have aluminized tubing. Pacesetter uses the same tubing for their cat-back and I've heard more than a few stories of it just rotting and falling apart. Like NJHK said, you can't go wrong with Magnaflow, Borla, or Thermal. I heard Megan Racing has some good products, too, but I haven't checked them out yet.
Blown.
i am running the stock manifold and the stock cat.....still sounds great but would sound better with a high flow cat and header.
anyone know where i can get a good header...not those cheapies...or recommend brand names? please
Thx for the head up Filip . I'll consider that.
I just got a borla and i love it. U should stick with that, trust me.

The first exhaust I put on my car was the system that Jegs had in their catalog last year. The description mentioned a resonated muffler with "dual 3.5 tips". When I gothe kit I was pretty disappointed. It used a retarded looking "muffler" that looked like those "megaphone" looking tips that look like something a redneck would put on his rusted out pickup truck. I didn't like it at all so I ditched that and picked up a universal one form Autozone. It's a Cherrybomb, I think, but it looks stock and only cost $30. It sounds okay, but it's all aluminized steel and it's already starting to rust a bit, but living in Iowa it's no surprise. I got the new catalog and it looks like they're doing a Y-pipe with 3/5" tips, so it is more of a dual exhaust. It might be better looking but I dunno.
Be kind to dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup.
Do the Thermal Research, you will not regret it.
My fist mod, and the one I still enjoy the most, great sound to it.

What's the price on the Thermal Research kit? I had their exhaust on another car, and I loved it. Kind of expensive, but worth every penny. I didn't even know they made one for the Cavy.

I believe it's $500.00. I got mine used from another JBO member for $250.00
It'd be worth your time to find a good exhaust shop.
I put an exhaust FAQ type thingy together a while back, but alas the sticky gods have not yet deemed it worthy.
Make your J-body exhaust sound good
It's specifically for 03+ what I have experience with, but the rules apply to all 3rd gens from what responses to the thread I've recieved.
