Magnaflow Pipe ?
Saturday, January 07, 2006 10:17 AM
ok, I odered my cat back from RKSport, and its arrived (as of yesterday).

I have a 2.4 97 Cavalier LS Sedan.

Which pipe do I use for the install? Long pipe, or Short pipe?

I am not installing this myself being as I have no welder, and can't weld worth a @!#$ anyways. But by taking it to the muffler shop i'll be getting the clamps replaced with welds, and the resinator welded in for $140. However, I don't really want to take the extra pipe with me so the guys don't get confused. lol.

Thanks in advanced.

It's going to cost you $140 dollars to have a resonator welded in? Talk about a rip off man! Most exhaust shops will charge $80 WITH a resonator. Wow man, I'd go shop around before wasting all that cash!

Just watching out for the fellow

Clamps and resonator weld for $140 = rip off. Sorry I didn't mention the clamps in the above post!

there installing the cat back, replacing clamps with welds, and adding a stainless res. 140 seems about right for that.

now, what pipe is used for the install?

I agree, sounds about right for the work and time...some shops are much cheaper than others.

Now, back to your question, it sounds a bit confussing. Can you take a picture of your setup so I can see the 2 seperate pipes you're talking about? I'm assuming if you bought a cat-back setup, you would use both pipes to connect to your catalytic converter.

with my 2200, I had to use the longer pipe with the setup.

If anything I would use a short pipe for that setup. A long pipe if I'm thinking right wouldn't really work. I guess I need to see a picture. LoL

You'll want to use the pipe that i highlighted when installing the system. I'm not sure exactly what the shorter pipe is for, but all i know is i didn't use it when i installed mine a few years ago.

Short pipe is for the 2.4L engines me thinks.

I got my whole catback made for that exact amount, Including all the hangers and welding my muffler

Catback exhausts for 95-05 J's are all the same, i think its there for a resonator to be installed.

no, the longer pipe is for the 2200's. I think the shorter pipe may be for the 2.4's and Eco's. I would suggest contacting RK Sport and find out, rather than trying to get a for sure answer here.

I remember my mechanic told me that he had two pipes to choose from when welding up my Magnaflow setup. He said he used the longer of the two pipes and scrapped the shorter pipe. I'd say bring both pipes so the shop can decide which one to use best. If they know what they're doing they won't panic and they'll take the best route to finish your piping.

Blown.
