I'm about to purchase possibly 2 of these coolers for myself made by Hayden. I wanted to know if anyone has heard of these giving any type of problems if any or just any other type of review on them. I knew one person who had it on his auto but just not sure if he had any problems with it later on or not.
Any help is appreciated.

Which ones are you looking at ? Post me some pics. But the tube style ones are great ! Stay away from the stacked type. The stacked type you cannot flush properly it you ever have a failure so you'd have to replace it. Also the stack type can let the fluid
cavitate ( air bubbles ) which can break up the flow.
Stick with the tube type coolers and if you really want to cool down some liquid try attaching a small fan to them and mounting them away from the radiator area, if you have room that is. I ran 2 of these myself in my old FireBird one for engine oil and one for trans fluid, each had its own fan and each sat in a different fender behind the headlights. When I would run it HARD you wouldn't believe the amount of heat those things could give off ! I have one of those little laser temp things and shot the tubes going in and then comeing out. After hard runs sometimes the temp drop on the fluid was big, like about a hurdred degrees worth of big.
DISCLAIMER: Please keep in mind that I was running 2 of the biggest tube style cooler Hayden makes with a fan for each one. The temps I provided were from my big block 72 FireBird which had tons of room in its fenders behind the lights and had excelent airflow to and from the coolers. Your temps may very.

I was also looking into this yesterday at Advanced Auto. Their very affordable. There were so many to choose from, different sizes and stuff like that.

when i worked at orielys we sold about 8 a week and i never saw one returned.
Thats the one you want to get. They are a steel tube with aluminium fins they don't go bad unless you go after it with a hammer.
Thats the kind I mean when I say tube type. stick with them they are the best.

I've had a hayden trans cooler on my car for at least three years. ZERO problems
Has anyone on here had a trans cooler, oil cooler and a FMIC mounted on at the same time? If so, how the heck does all that fit? lol

My parents have had a Hayden tranny cooler in their Astro van since 95. No problems, and it works great while towing. Kept the tranny temps cool, no matter how big of a trailer that van was towing. Only thing is that it takes the tranny a while to warm up in the winter, but worth it. (winter at -45)
hayden is good stuff
used their stuff on my elco along time ago
and my dad used alot of their stuff as well

It's possible to do...sometimes people remove the A/C so they can have more room in the front for cooling.

No problem. I posted this question especially for people like yourself who were curious like me.

Hayden makes good products. B&M and TCI also make good coolers. I have a B&M 24,000 gvw on my Z28 to go along with my stall converter and i have zero issues.

IMO if it were my car I was mounting this into I'd see about that nice big empty space directly behind those small grilles that are to either side of the radiators one. Plenty room back there for the cooler and a fan.
Just a thought but it wouldn't interfer with that FMIC at all being to its side.

just a quick question, ive been having some trans issues latetly that have caused me to take the car in for warranty work. Well they didnt fix the problem last time so im gonna have to bring it in again, do you think a trans cooler will give them a reason to void my warranty?

Thanks Adam, I couldn't get much help on tranny coolers but this thread has helped alot.
I was planning on mounting my cooler on a slanted position with galvanized steel brackets to one side of the radiator, closest to the tranny. I was also looking at B&M supercoolers but now I have Hayden to look into.

I'd just wait and see what they say then get it. Better safe then sorry.

how would you run lines for a trans cooler?
The lines are reinforced rubber kinda like your fuel injection rubber hose. You just disconect them from the radiator bend the a little and clamp the rubber lines on and run them to the cooler. FYI, the high presure hose can be bought seperatly should you need more then the kit comes with. Its sold at Advance Auto and its by Hayden so your getting the same hose that comes in the kit.

This has been on my mind for a while. I know the bigger, the better, but should I look for a specific size tranny cooler according to my application? I was looking at coolers around at least 10" H x 10" W, is this overkill or would a (for example..from Adam's link to the Hayden) 12" by 5" be adequate?
For reference, I'm supercharged at 6psi.

since i do alot of racing , and live in az were we have daily temps over 120
i was going to use the bigger of the 2 trans coolers b&m has with the electic fan
my rule has always been use the biggest 1 you can fit , in a given area that will make it the most efective
also you want to be able to keep the trans temps stable , so you dont want to cold , but the trans life gets higher the cooler it stays
Thanks for the input, I might be narrowing my search down now.

I have the smallest hayden trans cooler on the 97'. You need an adapter kit.
Hasn't failed yet. after 2 years.
