what should i do?

well right now im stuck. since my interior is almost done im gonna start building the engine but im stuck between building a turbo kit or building my car na and then using nitrous. i bought a spare head for like 75 bucks and was gonna order 1mm oversized valves and have the head ported adn polished and my car is gonna have a built bottom end and cams but i wanted to know something. my car is like my only source of transportation so i wanted to know what would be better for reliability? i wont be using a big shot of nitrous like a fifty shot and maybe a seventy five once in a while. and if i turbo it i wont be on more than ten psi of boost. but on the boost forum i see alot of people that are having problems with tuning and whatnot and i really cant have any of those kind of problems cuz if im not driving 40 miles to college im working. i know im gonnna have to tune my car if i keep it na with like stage 2 cams but id rather buy an safc and tune it with that than buy a megasquirt or something like that. basically i just need my car to be reliable but quick not real fast just quick something i can go to the track adn have fun with. also how would an ecotec with a pistons, rods, built head, stage 2 cams, catback exhaust, header, intake, pulley, a 75 shot and some other miscellaneous mods compare to like an ecotec on like 8 or 9 psi in terms of speed. will they be close i know i would have to see for myself but just wondering if anyone knew. sorry for the long post and if i put it in the wrong forum im sorry it had to deal with all three subjects so i didnt know whichone to put it in. thanks

Ok, I'll try and help you out as best as possible...

You have to first figure out how much power you really want. A 25 shot of nitrous and 10 PSI of boost is a HUGE difference. I think right now you're looking for a quick solution when really there isn't going to be one.

The tuning issues people have with the ECOTECs is mainly because of a bitch computers (Damn you OBDII!). What I am and some people are doing is going Megasquirt because it totally bypasses the stock computer and is SUPER better for tuning because you don't have a big brother trying to keep you down (refering to the stock computer). Running an SAFC-2 is pointless when turbo'd because you are tuning according to RPM, not boost...honestly, an FMU would be more helpful in that area than an SAFC-2.

Now, your comparison of a fully built ecotec + 75 shot of nitrous compared to a 9 PSI turbo'd ECOTEC is a bit hard to compare. First, it really depends on how you build the motor...are you staying 10:1 compression? Are you raising it? Honestly, if you're just doing all that to run a 75 shot of nitrous, you don't need to. I have personally seen a stock motor handle a 75 shot of nitrous with PROPER pre-cautions. Honestly, I think you would be dissapointed having "temporary power", especially when you're going as high as a 75 shot and then nothing until you spray again.

Now if you go Turbo, there are alot of things you have to do right the first time to avoid future problems. Like some people have said, when running Turbo, the power supply is endless, which is somewhat true. Reliability all determines on what parts you use and how well you maintain your vehicle. I suggest reading up alot on how turbos work, what exactly they do to your motor, what are basic maintenance issues that could suddenly occur and what pre-cautions you can do. By doing this, you could run incredible times without any issues and still on a STOCK MOTOR, so imagine if you did build your motor properly to handle a turbo setup (mmmm).

So my suggestion is to not even open up your motor untill you fully decide which way you want to go. There are pros and cons to go either way, you just have to honestly way them out yourself, I can't make that decision for you and neither can anyone else here, I can only tell you what I would personally go for but really, it's not my car, it's yours.

Just research, research, RESEARCH! You'll find your answer soon enough...

If you have any future questions, just ask. Good luck to you

cool. thanks for the advice for right now im gonna slowly buy parts to build my own turbo kit and then put it on later. i know its gonna take a while so i might buy a friends used wet kit for now and use that. hes selling it for 200 cuz hes almost done with his turbo kit for his civic. my car will be boosted but not for another while and for now im just gonna use the nitrous.

don't get too cocky with the nitrous. anything over a 50 shot and you're just buying time

I was a retard, and now I'm permanently banned.

well thats why i asked about building my motor to handle the bigger shot but i didnt get to many responses on that cuz i know someone i t hink its phlatcav is building his motor for nitrous like a hundred shot i think and i know some one with a red turbo cav i think 04 ecotec ls sport went through alot of bottles on a 75 shot and never messed up anything but went turbo now but i think building my motor for it should be okay thats why i asked first thanks
