can i put my car up on ramps to do the lower engine mount? some people have told me that you don't even need to take the wheel off. just wondering if that would be possible

You could possibly do it that way but its much eadier with the wheel off.

You guys took you wheel off?!?!
Just drive it up on the ramps jack the engine to take stress off the mount and go to work on the bolts, you may have to wedge a screwdriver in the wheel well and bend it back to get the bolt completly out but other than that all you need is a hammer and a little lube..

But then again when it comes to modding in general a hammer and some lube are the most important tools

You can do it on a ramp, but you have a better acces with the wheel off. I did it this way cause I already had to get the wheel off to puit my rims back on. For the plastic, you can just cut a part of it so if you remove them later it will be even easier.

take wheel off. remove panel. remove mount. install new mount. leave panel out. reinstall wheel (optional) lol

easiest done with air tools

All i did was cut two small pieces of the plastic where the bolt was so i could put a socket and rachet and just put a little dish soap on the ends of the mount and tap it into place with a hammer. Also had to cut a little from the upper motor mount insert to get it to fit. But it fit and works great.

scott,
did you not even jack the car up? i have jack stands but they are too big to get under the car. i was thinkin the ramps would be easier to deal with. waht plastic part did you cut?

Da ghost,
did you install your own header? if so how difficult was it and would it be worth paying $100 to have someone else do the install

I put my car on a lift and conned a coworker into doing it, ha ha. I work as an aprentice technition at an auto shop, so I gues I have an unfair advantage when it comes to mods.

If i were you Id pay someone....Installation is not complicated at all
However It is very diffucult and time consuming to get the bolts that attach the header to the head tight.

Is welding the DP included in the 100$?..If it I'd strongly encourage you do that.

he told me everything labor and tax would be $105 or at max $115. he told me I would have to do nothing except drive away smiling. i called another place and they told me $150 or more, that sucks.

I install all my own stuff, unless it requires welding because I don't have a welder in the garage yet. But with all the turbo projects we do... I need one very badly.

I installed the header myself and then got the car to an exhaust shop. I like to do everything by myself. I just need to learn how to weld with a semi and I'm going to do all my stuff by my own. Sometimes I'm proud of myself to see what I did on my car... then I look in my wallet and cry.....

i think its different for every car. give it sometime. there will be more vibration if you live in cold areas. but it goes away when the car warms up.
but like i said, give it time

the vibration doesn't go away, so learn to live with it. the materials used to make the mount are harder than the stock rubber mount, and therefor transmit more vibration. thats the price we pay for better performance. By the way, I've had the mount in my Sunfire for about two months and I don't notice the vibration too much anymore, but my interior is louder.
