Pacesetter header = cheap = bad?

I know there was a post that was up on the pacesetter cat-back and it was cheap cause it was crap, does the same go for the header?! I'm really interested in getting one!

Thanks~!

I got a pacesetter header for my 97 2.2 cavy and the only real problem with it is that if you just get the black coating on the header it will be burned off in the matter of minutes after starting the car. I havent even found something that will stick to it either. Ive tried the 1200 degree high temp paint and everything nothing seems to work. So if you dont care about lots of rust then get it but id suggest getting a ceramic coated header.

The header is good. Majority of members have them. The paint on the the black painted one tends to flake off after a short time. Whatever you do.. do not wrap it in exhaust wrap.

Mine is fine, actually great. Get ceramic coated too. Good luck!

that black stuff they put on the steel header is to protect it for shipping. you are supposed to get that balck stuff off and have it sprayed with a coating of your choice. but make sure you sand it first

Why do you say to not wrap it?

It will void the warrenty and do more harm than good.

it dosnt allow the metal to heat and cool properly , which fatigues the metal , and causes it to do some weird stuff

GOOD QUESTION! lol I will tell you what happens and I have Ken2.2 as a witness as to why you dont wrap a header. I bought my non coated pacesetter and sanded all the pain off and then put a few coats of the 1200 deg paint on. Then the next day i wraped each primary about an inch from the flange to as far down to the collector as I could. I then wrapped from the collector to about 4inches past the closest I could ge with my wraping of individual primaries. Installed and done in Jan. of 05

About 10 months later on 10-15-05 @ 10-11pm I'm headed out to Northern Illinios University for some friendly drunken-ness taking I-88 after work. Freshly filled bottle in the trunk messing with another car. I downshifted and punched it and then.....wwweeeee....HAhaHaha to .....tick..tic tick tick tick tick tick.. .....*&^%#)(! and ^$^*(%@ crap. Now i thought to myself hmmm.. I think I might have blown my exhaust gasket poop!, now my car sound like junk. Fast forward to sunday morning I start the car and look under it and I know it couldn't be at the collector since it was a ball joint and it wasn't at the head b/c it was comming lowwer than that.

Well i talked to Ken 2.2 and he happened to have an extra header laying around since he went turbo. I show up and he's all like hey man here it is but it doesn't have a ball joint anymore so we are going to tear your car apart in my drive way since I just met you. And see whats causing the problem. about 25 minutes later header in hand we take off the wrap and find a hole on the #2 primary about the size of a dime and the pipe is cracked as well. He then went to work with his welder and helped fix the problem.

Lesson Learned---Be a tool don't wrap your tool..
.....
and orgies are nice people when in need.

but basiclly the wrap keeps moister in coroding the pipes fast insted of letting it boil off. If i get a camera i will post picks to show the damage later on..

put the crack pipe down man. lol

my 2nd gear synchro went out at 7k miles on my eco. i had the rk intake, mounts, header, exhaust and was lowered. NOTHING was mentioned about my mods. it depends on how much of a dick your dealer is.

but to answer the guys question.. i had my pacesetter ceramic header on my eco for a couple thousand miles. i loved it.. good quality and fitment. really nice gains after 4k. i took it off because i bought the hahn stage II kit. i still got the header. its been sitting in my room for a few months cuz there isnt another modded eco around here.
heres the link in the classifieds

/\ /\ /\ I'm pretty sure they're referring to the headers warrenty being voided if you were to wrap it. Those mods you listed wouldn't do anything to your power train warrenty at all.
I've got a ceramic coated one and its great, made a night and day difference in how the car runs and how much gas it eats. My gauge seems to be moveing toward "E" slower since I put the header on.

I love it.

Unless you dealer is just a real dick they won't even bother with it. My dealer is mod friendly. Did a whole bunch of stuff and they still fixed my car. There is another dealer here that would not touch my car.

I have the painted one. i guess i should have gonre ceramic. My car is not really a show car. I don't live anywhere that has salt on the road or near the sea that will also cause erosion.

if you ARE going to spend time and effort making a pacesetter header work (extending the o2 sucks), make sure you get a coated one.

Its good I have the full setup up header back with a magnaflow resignator i Love the sound. better than most 2.2 ohv I have heard. Just won't wrap the header in header wrap and get the ceramoc coated one.extending the o2 was simple VERY simple.

Get ceramic coated, I have the painted one, and paint lasted maybe 5 minutes before it burned off. Works great no real complaints at all. I also highly recommend motor mounts so you don't crack your header.

I got the painted header. First I removed the black paint. Then coated it with 1200 degree paint. Last I stuck it in the oven for a hour to cure it. Have had it on a little over a year and dont have any problems.
