insulating pad under hood?

ok so i just got this z24 a few weeks ago

i am looking at it and i notice this insulating pad on the underside of the hood. my old 2200 cav didn't have it. is there a reason it's there or can i remove it? if i remove it will it affect anything tempwise, or will it just make my car a little more noisy?

Sorry...

It is more for sound reduction. I took mine out when i had my stock hood
