exhaust

ok guys currently...i have a stupid fart can...and i mean no disrespect but i seriously hate those things...i dont like that bumble bee noise...and even tho mine isnt like all high pitched...and sounds aight...i wanted to get something that sounded deeper and more "muscular"... i was talking to a tech. at work and he really doesnt know that much about Chevy products and setups...so ill have money within about a month to get a new exhaust setup...and i saw some1 had a camaro muffler with the two tail pipes...so that gives some ideas....

what i am really hoping for is the appearence of str8 pipes...dual..(i like the look) and rumble..not bumble....so i guess what i am asking is what would i get to acheve this? im also looking for sumthing that would up the performance of my car a little bit...so sumthing like 2.5 or 3 inch pipes? im not an all expert at this stuff...so go easy on the bashing...thanx for all help

As far as you doing straight pipes, it's worthless and if you're complaining about the sound now, it will only get worse. Keep your cat or upgrade your catalytic converter. Unless you are boosted, you don't want 3 inch piping...a 2 1/4" would be perfect for the setup you have now.

If you want a nice deep tone and keep the raspyness down, make sure you add a resonator.

If you really want to do the whole "Camaro" setup, read this post: http://www.j-body.org/forums/read.php?f=2&i=316974&t=316974#316974

A nice resonator will help that...even a nice little oval muffler would help as well.

oh so you want it to soud like a small block chevy eh? ok. go to http://www.jbodyperformance.com and order the stage 2 cams. install the cams. have your head PnP'd, and put on a header and 2.25" exhaust with a 20" resonator. Enjoy

If you want your car to sound like a V-8, then drop a V-8 in it...you have a 4 cyl, and its gonna sound high pitched no matter what you do...I am not trying to flame or anything like that, its just the facts of life...a 4 cyl wont sound like a V-8 no matter what you do to it...Sorry

well i figured i would just go with the 2.4....but since my cav is a daily driver i was just gonna buy a cheap one since i plan on putting a lotta money into it to make it good...im still researching, and learning up....

and Qbert..i appreciate it but sounding like a V8...isnt really what i meant...i mean i just dont like the sound you get from those fart cans...and besides the SRT-4 is a 4 cyl and it is pretty deep and rumbly...well compared to the rsx...but i heard a 350z and i no it is a 6 cyl but i love the way those sound...so maybe i could get something similar to that..but ill probably just go with the camaro setup

Those cars you are talking about a on the high-end power side and are different motors than ours. Any stock car is going to sound low because it's restrictive to a point. The sound of a car depends on the motor and exhaust setup.
