R&D Fabs Intake
Friday, September 02, 2005 8:44 AM
I just recieved my intake. Its of great quality and i love the gain, but i'm having some hood clearance issues. I just need like a few milimeters more clearence. Does anyone have any suggestions.

It is hitting the silicone and the metal ties. I was thinking of just haveing the 2 pieces welded together, so I won't need the silicone any more. Any other ideas?

might be able to adjust the hood a little with the little rubber stoppers that are in the front of the hood. That would raise the hood a little but it might offset the gap between the fender and the hood. Make sure the intake is as far down as it will go , and if all else fails, just shave a little bit off of the intake were it connect to the TB, so that it sits lower.

It is pushed down as low as it can go. Plus where they put the support mount there is not alot of room for adjustment. I will try the rubber stoppers until i can get around to haveing someone weld it.

First try what everyone else has said with the black rubber bump stops. You need to adjust them up a tad bit. Next step is to do is play with how you have it sitten in the TB coupler. Losen the mouting point to the Valve cover to get it sitten low enough, If you tighen it again it will go back to the original position of being too straight up. Once you get it sitten lower, get 2 pliars or you may not even need them and *carefully* bend the mounting bracket down a little bit. If you need a tad bit more you can always remove the fuel rail cover. With mine i had clearance issues myself but since i know Chris and ryan personally, i was out at the shop one day and we fixed this problem and is another reason why the design of them changed a little bit to aid in fixing that minor problem. On mine we bent the bracket that mounts to the valve cover so it is sorta looks like _/ instead of a 90 degree angle. I have also installed the prothane motor mounts since then and it dosn't rub anymore. If you need anymore help just speak up and i'll also forward this onto chris and ryan to let them know what is up and that there is a problem.

i would take the easy rout, just shave the tb end and be done with it.

odd that they would sell an intake that does not fit correctly

^^ They do fit when they leave, they just have to be fined tuned when you get them on your car. They are not machine made like AEM or INJEN. They are all hand welded together and polished. Every car will be slightly different in where the hood sits when you get them. ppl play with those rubber bushings, so with any custom hand-mad part, its takes a little time to get it to fit properly. I have had parts from major maufacturers not fit properly and have to fiddle with them a bit to get them to fit....

^^^ Right...what an un-educated comment

Sorry to hear you're having problems, but I wanna do what I can to help. The first thing I would tell you to do is loosen the TOP (thick) clamp on the coupler that connects the intake to the throttle body. Pull the intake UP towards the sky as much as you can while still maintaining hood clearance (make sure you loosen the nut that holds the bracket down to the valve cover, first). Doing this should actually push your problem area down more towards the ground, giving you a little more clearance.

If this doesn't help, let me know and I'll send you 2 new polished clamps that are lower-profile than the ones you already have. This will DEFINITELY solve your problem. Keep me posted!!!

Um, why not just trim alittle off the top of the coupler? I know most of them are pretty thick.
Just trim enough to get the clearance, and re clamp.

you spent money on an RD Fabs intake... but you didn't get the cold air? I'm confused as to why you would get an RD Fabs warm air intake.

I have yet to see a 2.4L intake that doesn't hit the hood.
Injen and Aem both hit the hood. And those two companies are the biggest air intake makers.

I have an RSM intake for my 2.4 L and it fits great, no fitment problems at all, and it doesn't hit the hood at all either.

i have the rd fabs cold air conversion for my 2200 and it doesnt fit very good at all. the mounting bracket coming off the intake that is supposed to mount to the valve cover is about 2 inches off so i had to make a bracket for it to hook to. then where the intake curves by the strut tower it hits everytime i accelerate and then let off the gas or when i start the car. i ordered motor mounts to keep the intake from hitting the tower so maybe that will fix it.

spotabee i got the short ram, because it is what i wanted. It is 90 degrees outside and the asphalt is even hotter, so i really wouldn't be getting cold air.

Brandon Evans-

Did you ever let us know you were having problems so we could remedy them for you? 90% of the time, it's an installation issue that causes things to hit/rub/whatnot, rather than an actual error in design.
