Best Ecotec Header??? Have RKSPORT 4-2-1
Thursday, September 01, 2005 7:38 AM
Hey,
I've had the RKSPORT ceramic 4-2-1 header for the ecotec since it first came out. I'm having problems now with leakage. Need new o-ring seals for the bottom part and have a hole in my flex pipe from it hitting the chasis. I've already bought a new flex pipe, but looks like labor is going to be a B----! Thinking of buying new headers, any suggestions on a good header for the ecotec? Weapon R? Website claims 260 dollars for stainless steel headers.
Thanks

To be honest Weapon R is a copy of the RKSport. I run the RKSport myself and I've went through 3 gaskets in the last year (when it goes from 4-2)!

I hear it does fit better but basically it's the same header. What I've read on here seems Pacesetter with the coating is the header with the least problems, best fit and overall satisfaction. I've thought of getting one myself but just haven't bought one yet.

Hope that helped some.

Eh...old man with a Corvette now...it was bound to happen sooner rather than later right?

i have the pacesetter and i love it.. the only thing i hate is the joint on it for the dp... its the stupid ball type joint with the bolts and the springs i get a slight leak on it but i know it was from when i had the stock pipe welded to it because i had a very short dp and the guy bent the pipe a lil to much so its causing a slight gap but i will be fixing that soon enough but other than that i love th pace setter one....

The RKPoop header is exactly that, POOP! I had the same problem as you all are having. I took it out, cut it apart and welded it all back together. It is still a 4-2-1 but it only has the gaskets at the head and after the flex pipe. It sucks because in order to weld on it you have to grind the coating off of it, so where the new welds are i just used high heat paint to match the ceramic coating, it stuck to the bare metal and burtn right off of the ceramic and now it doesnt look to bad. That is a cheaper solution than to go buy a new header and have to get stuff to make it fit your system. As a one piece unit it did take alot to get it back in the car, but it is now a very good unit. I had to take loose the lower mount and the upper mount and slide the engine twards the fron to get it to fit, but it went in. Now i dont have to change gaskets every other month. I did this mod to the header aboout 4 or 5 months ago and havent had any problem since. Good luck on whatever you decide to do but buying a new header is money that could be spent somewhere else. Here is a link to my yahoo pics there is a pic of my frankenstein header in there so you can check it out. I didnt add any pieces, only took away, so now the profile is lower and it doesnt heat my hood up as bad as it did. The pic is of the header about a day after the reinstall, now that all the excess paint is off it doesnt look to bad.

Thanks guys a lot,
JFORCE-I saw a picture of the weapon R header on an eco from someone on J-body. His header looked exactly like the RKSPORT 4-2-1 like you said, but was stainless steel which I don't mind.
John H-I agree with you on the money issue. Rather buy other car parts than have to buy a new header, unless I can sell mine, which is still in good looking shape. I found a price for 397 at some website, but the PROSTREETONLINE.com for 269, which isn't too much money
Thanks again

What about the STAN'S header. I have heard that even though they are a bit pricy that htey have over all pretty good quality and design.

What kind of gaskets were they and did you use the ones that came with the header?

I've found that mostly people have problems with the gaskets cause they use the crap ones the companies send them. I personally have the Weapon-R header and no leaking what so ever and I've had it on my vehicle for a long time now.

It's a bit pricey for my blood for a damn header but if you can find it in the classifieds for much cheaper and at a reasonable price, I would go for it. I've never heard anything bad about their quality, just too much money brand new for a header.

By the way, you mean Header to the Cylinder Head, not the block.

why pay the $400+ that DC wants for the 4-1 header when you can get the Pacesetter Ceramic coated header for under $250?

Now it has 111k on it. No major problems at all. I had to put coil packs on it at 30k but it was under war. I have been using syn. oil since it was new and 80% of the miles are interstate miles. I just need to find a junkyard motor with like around 30k so i can rebuild mine.
