If a G-Tech can be close to accurate, I don't see why this would be any different.

your right but it does give you useful info
What cable do you have? All depends of the cable-software package.
Nology, Auterra, AutoEnginiuty, Digimoto, AutoTap are some programs for PC, Palm and PocketPC plataforms that can calculate times, power, torque and other variables.
How accurate will be, including a defined error margin, depends in how accurate is the data you will feed those programs.
Just as the G-Tech, if you don't feed the right weight, the HP readings will be anything out of reality.
Think another thing, some programs are licensed!!!.
A good option could be Digimoto Lite. It is free but I don't know if it have HP calculation module and if you have an ELM Scantool cable.
Check out www.scantool.net. Their cables are compatible with many freeware and licensed programs. Again Digimoto Lite and Scanmaster will be some options.
Other OBDII and CAN cable supliers could be www.multiplex-engineering.com and www.bbelectronics.com (same people that make autotap cables).
I hope this info help you.
Regards,
