maybe late year 99's on some, but in 99 it was the last year of the more user friendly strut mounts and big starters...

once they ran out, the later 99;s got the new 2000 stuff.

Do these smaller starters interchange with what years?

the same engines of the big starter years.... basically all third gens for each respective engine.

so what you're sayin is that a 2200 starter will fit in a 2.2 starter's spot

That's what I'm getting from this

all of my friends with 99's have had the small starters

maybe yours was replaced atone time and all they had was the small ??

but ill go with the mid year cange over

the smaller starter is(guessing) 1/3 to 1/2 lighter than the big 1 , its a gear reduction starter , which takes less power to spin , and makes more tq when its engaged , so it spins the motor over easier

just needed to be sure the mounting points are the same....if it's smaller then the mounts might be placed differently
