60mm TB rant

I got a 60mm TB from jbodyperformance(not impressed with them at all) After having a buddy do some machine work to it to clean it up and fix the butteryfly which was dented and didint fit propperly I took it to the track. Before I broke my tranny and both axles I was running a 15.4. I dont concider this good at all. I was running a 15.1 over a year ago and I have the following new mods since then; Rk upper motor mount insert, Rk lower motor mount, 17 inch rims with some Toyo proxe 4's(very sticky, im in love) ported intake manifold and the TB. I was told that maybe im getting to much air and may need head work and/or cams?? Any one else have any input on your larger TB? I noticed a huge gain after about 80mp, it pulls like crasy but before that it just dosnt seem its speedy old self.

bigger TB gives less velocity for low down torque, more air flow for upper rpm...

basically what you lost downlow, you gain uptop...you moved the powerband...

unless you do something internally engine wise, most times its a give and take of down low grunt and upper rpm pull.

on the tires, the weight can be the same, but you also lose sidewall which can give snap off the line and also the weight is now more focused farther out in the diameter of the wheel than before.

good for road racing, but can hurt a small bit in drag racing. think about top fuel dragsters.... large sidewall.

If you weren't satisfied with the product, why not call them and return it for a unit that wasn't damaged? Granted, I don't own a J, but I have several friends who have done lots of business with JBP and gotten quality products and excellent service... If you were too impatient to properly deal with the situation its not fair to come on here and give a negative slant toward JBP.

Besides that, wtf are you doing to break a tranny and axles if you're only running 15's with basic bolt ons??

Try upping the compression(boost n20, buildup)

rj.. I see your 60' times were low to mid 2.2's, and run in April when you ran the 16. teen passes. You east coast racers are blessed with great air in the spring and fall.

What were the 60' times with the new mods and what was the weather like when you ran it recently?

It may not be just the changes, part of the issue could be weather and track prep.

Compare the slips, 60' time , grab a calculator and figure 60 -330 time, and look at 1/8th mile ET and speed.

You should be able to break down the slips to determine if the car has lost low end grunt or the issue was with track prep and/or mother nature.

I'd agree with other guys as well. Though yours Toyos may be sticky, short sidewall tires are brutal on driveline parts, and the weight is on a larger diameter. It's been proven on the chassis dyno, large heavy rims suck up HP.

i;ve exploded and axle internal of the boot. i doubt i run 15;s, but the transmission does give more of a punch than the stock one did.

the cv joint basically blew up inside the boot. never seen that in my life, but pretty scarry at 3 am, and raining, and then it sounds like rocks in a blender, then finally no drive power.

since the last time I was at the track to run the 15 I have done several get it to the ground mods such as but not limtited too, motor mounts and inserts and z rated tires. Trust me I have alot worse things I would like to say about my experience about JBP including being lied to several times by one of the employees, no customer communication, terrable turn around time and straight up poor, poor product. If they want to charge this much for a machined product they could at least do a good job. They couldnt evan take the time to tighten the screws for the sensors down! No doubt Mev is an awesome guy and he straight up told me that his employee lied to me and I have much respect towards that but other than that I am very unsatisfied and wouldnt risk sending my product back to have it "fixed" do to my recent experience with quality and turn around time. At this point they would have to do alot to redeem themselfs. Honestly I dont think its fair to over pay on a product and have to wait for over a month to receieve it while being lied to about when I would be recieving.

Ill have to check my slips and see what my new 60 was but i think it was actually worse. Possibly do to a axle being sloppy, running on full street tire pressure and just straight up lack of practice. Ill check on the times soon and repost.
