Dual Exhaust
Sunday, July 03, 2005 6:19 AM
Im looking to get a dual exhaust from RK sport
Link

or

Link

from what I have been reading I should go with a 2.25" pipe and a 20"-24" resonator
high flow cat and of course headers
that sound about right?

anyway I just wanted to know does anyone have dual exhaust? if so what and is
it worth it?

Im just looking for a "DEEP" sound and not some screaming duck
to the point where when I step on the gas its not like "hey cops im over here going faster than I should" and hear it from 2 towns over

also if you have any other brands let me know

well you do have a third option: stock duals from a Sunfire GT. Thats what i intend to do. this way it isnt raspy

If he wants a little bit more "giddy-up" than stock duals won't do him any good.

With the setup you had above and those resonators, you should be fine and it will sound nice and deep. Good luck to ya.

It really doesn't have anything to do with RK Sport's exhaust system. The RK Sport catback has no resonators and has canister style mufflers, so it will sound higher pitched. Either way, they have mendral piping, so it has nothing to do with the piping either.

lol, thanks made it myself with photoshop

but anyway, thanks for the feed back
so the one from rksport are ok? but you need to get a resonator with them
so when I go to the shop how much does a good 20"-24" one cost?
and the tips on the rksport one is mangnaflow ive heard nothing but good things
is that right?

let me know

magnaflow muffelrs are RASPY! (which RK uses)

i would custom make one, which will cost you much less then a RKsport one and will sound much better IMO!

take a look at the sound clips, thats the sound im going for
but with dual exaust, you think if i got the 2.25 pipe and had a resonator
before the Y splite to the to tips will sound the same?

The reason RKS setup is raspy is cause magnaflow canisters are used. If you use magnaflow ovals, there is less of a high pitched buzz. Its not all Magnaflow products, its just the application they sell for us especially with no resonator.

I should have pics and vids within a week or so of my install.

I have heard the rk one and its loud and raspy, to me obnoxious... magnaflow actually sold a setup that had a resonator.. but they are no longer selling it. With a resonator it was better sounding. All I can describe it was, at startup it sounded like a hard rev, high pitched at idle, and when you get on it it goes up and then you hear the bees pop. I am sure cruising at like 65/70 would have a loud higher ring to it

If you are looking for a dual look
Check this out. This is the set up i have and you can pick what ever tips you want. I have some Camaro tip.

I really don't like the look of the Rksport set up because if you don't have a kit it is just these two canisters just hanging fromthe back which is not very attractive

I would suggest getting one custom made. I hava a Flowmaster 40 w/21/4 piping and a 24 in resonator entire cost of parts and install was like 375. I went to local exhaust shop and got a quote before i bought all my parts ( muffler and resonator ). My exhaust is nice and deep no raspyness quiet untill you floor it too.

I got a Borla Exhaust Set up for my 2003 Cavy. I'm running DC Sports 4-2-1 Headers, and a High Flow Cat I bought when i was bored from JC Whitney online. I got to tell you, i'm VERY happy with the tone produced. It is no where near the High Pitched Screamers you hear coming from Civics and Talons. It's got a much deeper tone, and definitely puts the others to shame when reving up. It was wll worth the price. A little bit of advice though, i'm against dual exhaust. They have no practical purpose at all on a cavaliers, except looks. They add extra weight, and don't have any benifits that i can think of. But to each his own i guess. Good luck with your decision!

I had the RKSport Dual Exhaust setup and it sounded really raspy and they put a resonator on it and it sounds really awesome. It soulds pretty quiet just crusin and when you give it some gas it the sound gets pretty mean from there. I couldnt be happier.

well I want the sound and the looks, performance well from what I have heard
just a cat back with header and high flow cat dosent to do much to it ether
but ive just always wanted dual exhaust, dont get me wrong I love power but
how much more weight could it add?

also I like how you respect my thoughts and not flamed me

You can do a Camaro exhaust like i did. I did it for looks but i don't like that hanging dual Canisters looks out of place to me. Sound to people will differ because i have heard many Rksport catbacks and i don't like how it sounds.

This is Dave's car but it is the same set up i have.

This is an old pictures of me exhaust from the rear.
