2.4 rebuild.. worth it?
Sunday, June 19, 2005 5:56 PM
I have a 96 Sunfire GT with roughly 165,000 miles on it. I was wondering if it would be worth it to rebuild the thing. I love the car and its the only reason I'm considering this. If anyone thinks it is where could I get a good rebuild kit? If i do rebuild it I would want to put a turbo on it. Plus the car has been mine for about 4 and a half years now and the only things I've replaced are basic stuff like brake pads etc. Ive had to replace the water pump as well. What other things should I replace to make the car give me another 4+ years? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

ok. With 165,000 I would highly not suggest throwing a turbo kit on it BUT if you plan on fully rebuilding it (pistons, rods, head, cams etc) than yes it is worth it. The 2.4 Motor is a very good motor with lots of potential. Now, you are talking about BIG bucks as far as parts and labor but down the road it will be a monster and can handle anything you throw at it.
