I just bought a pacesetter eco header off another org member and its not the ceramic coated one. I had the non ceramic coated black one on my OHV , and the paint burned and chipped off and it smelt terrible.
Do you think if i got some high temp rattle can spray and did a layer or so it wouldnt prevent it from burning and chipping?
( i know i can have it coated and all that , but i dont really have the money plus ide rather have it black )
Thanks for any responses / help ...
You need to first strip off the old paint... then get ceramic paint from an auto parts store that is able to withstand at least 1500deg (2000deg would be better)
I think you would have better luck with
this
Just pee on it...makes the paint last......

he would be better off peeing on it.

haha, true
sand the black crap off and paint with high temp paint MADE FOR painting exhaust pieces
Was at Autozone the other day and VHT has some line of high temp paint up to 200K I think it said. Some color choices too. Red, blue, orange, silver/alum..etc.
This product may be replacing the high temp Duplicolor stuff maybe they usually sell.
They still have the 500 degree stuff though.
Actually a bunch of new sprays.
Finally have the clearcoat reflective stuff..

Remember....syringes go in the RED waste basket.
I used the VHT paint. the 2000 degree stuff. But I can't give any feedback, since it's still lying in my garage.
yeah you gotta strip all the black paint off , or the high temp pait will burn off
make sure you clean and prep the header for the high temp paint
as long as you sand the black paint off and paint with some hi temp paint then use the header wrap it will be fine and it works good , and it looks much nicer and it keeps heat out of engine bay

how many times do we have to say DO NOT wrap your header , it voids the warrenty , as well as will destroy the header in a very short time
I used the
VHT Flameproof Coating in flat black. I followed the directions on the can, especially about curing the paint and have had no problems. I believe the DEI brand will be about the same.
If you want to use a wrap on your header, use
Thermo-Tec's Exhaust Jackets( Part # THE-11246, $59.88 from Summit). These do not seal at the bottom, so the would let ant moisture, that would get trapped in regular wraps, out. It's the moisture that gets trapped, with the heat, that kills the steel in the headers. You headers will still rust faster than normal, but not as fast as with full wraps. These too, would void any warrenty, if you bout the headers new though.
Jet Hot makes a really nice coating, im at work or id post the link to them

I Saw the DEI brand in advances auto parts.
Whats the best way to cure the paint?
Take it to a place that does coating..cause be too much for the coating..maybe 50 bucks.phil
lets say you have a ceramic coated header... BUT you would prefer it to be black because the rest of your engine bay will be black... could you use that high temp paint on the ceramic coating and be alright??
thanks!
oh... and back from the dead!! lol
