OBI to OBDII??? 95swap to 98?

Well my girlfriend has this Sunfire GT and it is a 95 and I am guessing OBDI, so here it is guys, I wanna put the 98 motor 2.4L in it and a 98 tranny, cause hers is just about shot??

I can get the motor, tranny and the wiring, for the motor, but am I going to need to do any changes inside of the cabin??

Now I am somewaht infamous for engine swaps and stuff but I have never messed with OBD's and I don't know the difference, I have always been OBDII, but here engine wiring looks pretty close to what mine used to look on a LD9??

So any of you OBD swappers, what is involved? If it is just the engine stuff, I will fix here car up quick, I don't like the cabin crap tho

you just need the 98 PCM and complete wiring harness.

If it's a 5 speed it's OBDI otherwise it's OBDII.

Anyway, the 2.4 will run on OBDI no problem. The real problem you have is the tranny. If both are 5 speed, then you can just put the 2.4 in with the tranny and go. If it's an auto then I can't say for sure that you'll be able to use the 98 tranny with a 95 ecm. Maybe if both are 3 speed or 4 speed maybe it will work.

But the engine is fine, it will run on the 95 ecm (either OBD I or II it will work).

You may need to change some sensor from the 95 engine to the 98 engine tough.

Ok, it is a 5 speed, and like I said it looks damn near the same, it is just the fact that it is a OBD1 that puzzles me. lol
So it is a 2.3L 95 Sunfire GT 5 speed.
So all I need is a 2.4L motor the ECU from a 98, tranny, cause I do wanna change the tranny, and the 98 engine wiring should work with the OBD1 (95 cabine wiring)??

Thanks guys, this little 2.3L seems like it is falling apart, I wanna put something with a little less miles on it so far it has the most miles I have ever heard of a Quad have.

185,000 miles on the motor. lmao

WAIT WAIT WAIT!!

Use the 95 harness and ECM. Do not change the Ecm/harness, it's pointless. Just change the engine and trans and plug everything back together and go.

You may have to use some 95 sensor on the 98 engine. So you can say bye bye to the EGR.

The 2.4 will run with the 95 ecm and harness.

I am not doing it today so I am waiting. lol
Now wouldn't it be kinda hard to use the 95 engine harness on the 98 motor since of the intake manifold design and all of the TB sensors and crap??

I mean I would use the engine harness, but do I need to cut and stuff?

Also it would be a 98 2.4L OBD1 that I can rev to like 9000 RPM chipped. lol Right?

The sensor location are pretty much the same. The IM is different yeah but I don't think you would have any problem pluging everything. If you use the 98 harness, you'll have to modify the wiring for sure.

Once chiped, you'll be able to rev the 2.4 to 7450rpm. you MAY have to use the 2.3 ignition module but I can't say for sure on that one.
