High idle after 60mm Tb on 98 2.4
Monday, June 06, 2005 3:39 PM
Finally got my 60mm Tb from jbodyperformance and got it all installed. Now it idles at 2200 RPM's and sometimes when I step on the gas the RPM's will go and stay higher. Any one know why it may do this ?

By the way, your sig needs to be something like this:

< a href="http://nystreetscene.com/" > 15.1 with a broken tranny mount< /a >

Without the spaces... I edited your post so it was correct, otherwise it screws the entire page up with bad formatting...

IE, you were missing the last " mark and had the /a tag before the text, so it would never show up... Anyway, your tb problem is most likely a vac leak.

where did you get the TB from? Was it like a home made one? Could it be that the TB plate wasnt increased with as well, so now more air gets past the TB plate at idle than before?

^^^^^^^^* It seems to kinda go up and down a little bit but not below 1600, my friend had this problem with his civic and I believe he solved it with the idle control screw. I found the screw and it is sealed up, should I mess with it or leave it sealed up?

If you're using the factory manifold, did you port the area the TB sits on.

I mean port like maybe only 1.5mm, its VERY little.
THere is a line of platic that kinda protrudes ot you dremel off.
Pretty simple.

As for the idle screw.
The 2.4L is like a funky start 5 poit screw.
Hopefully they changed that so YOu can use a regular torx or socket to make the adjustment.

Yes, the intake manifold is ported. Are you suggesting I toy with the screw?

Couldn't this be the butterfly not sealing with the inside of the TB?

That was my first thought.

I'm thinking the same.

If this is the case im not going to be a very happy camper. Already have had many issues with jbodyperformance with this order and now that you mention it the butteryfly did have a ding in it when I got it.

I had the same problem with my FDP 65mm t/b at first...... very easy to fix for me...... At first I backed the throttle stop screw out, it brought the idle down, but not all the way (from 1800 to about 1400)...... then I took off the tps sensor, used a drill to elongate the mounting holes, and put it back on LOOSELY. While the engine is running, I rotated the sensor untill the idle cam down. Then I snugged up the screws. (it helped that I had a scan tool/data logger plugged in, and I could read the Throttle Angle

Not saying this is the same problem you have, but this is what worked for me.

Ill try this too, the TPS wasnt evan bolted on tightly when I got it and it seemed to have a little play already with out elongating the screws. Thanks for the idea!

with the idle control screw i got it down to about 1400. Did you break the little point off on the TPS that holds it from moving either way?

yes, brake it off..... its just an alignment tab for the stock t/b.
