i was takling to a friend of mine who's experienced in Fiberglass. He said he could make an intake for me ( a CAI ). some questions... (2003 cavalier auto)
would it dissipate heat well?
would i have any problems installing an "in-line" bypass valve (from AEM)
what about IAT and other sensors???

Heat-
You don't have to worry about heat soak on an intake. The air goes so fast from the filter to the plenum that it doesn't have time to heat soak. The key is to bring in colder air, not to make a colder tube.
Bypass-
I don't believe you would, you would just have to make sure that the piping was the same size.
IAT-
Drill a hole, install grommet, push sensor in, solved

Id be a little concerned with durability fiberglass is not very forgiving it would be very easy to damage it

Fiberglass intake.. No no I dont like the sound of this at all man. I picture you hitting a bump, hearing a god awful crunch, and the sound of your engine being totaly destroyed.
i'm hoping he ment FRP or fiber reinforced plastic. which would basically be a plastic tube coated with glass & resin. actually do a google and go for some carbon fiber or carbon kevlar, they actually look nice without paint. i like working with fiberglass but it definatly isn't the most attractive of materials. there are plenty of companies that sell carbon sheets.

ahaah wow that would make a nice mess of your engine... like people have said if it brakes and goes in threw your throttle body... hummm i wouldn't want to hear/see what happens next.
especially if you are driving in winter or when its cold out brittleness might be an issue until the engine warms up i wouldnt do it personally

hey thanks a lot for the feedback, i'm going to double check on what material he is going to use and see if he'll do a carbon sheet instead of fiberglass. wouldn't want to sacrifice my whole engine for an experimental intake........
