OEM Ecotec engine "S" intake tube info.
Wednesday, June 01, 2005 6:39 PM
Hi friends. I need some info about the stock Ecotec engine "S" intake tube, the black plastic one. What are sizes (diameter) of both openings this tube? where in the "S" tube is located the IAT sensor? Pics are welcome.

Regards,

As usual Event, your help is really useful.

Friend, seems to me that this "S" duct should have the same diameter as the stock LN2 and LD9 engines in the air cleaner box side. Then, do you think that at the TB side could be around 3"?

Also I notice that the "S" decrease in diameter as it goes near the TB, right? this is right or I am imaging this?

The TB is quite a bit smaller than 3", closer to 2 1/16th or 52mm...

Thanks Shifted and Event. I want to test an idea, for near future, of a custom CAI for my SC that have some kind of Venturi effect, as the ICEMAN intake for the LD9 engine. Inclusive I will love the OEM look and the fact that is plastic not aluminium. But don't want to pay almost $160 for a new Iceman intake to know if works or not.

About the TB side opening, will be great if it could be 2.5" or bigger.

Regards,

whats up eliot. do you mean the opening of the TB or the plate?

2.5 inches equals out to 63.5mm

as for the S part, i think think it decreases, as much as it ovals. it might be smaller by a bit, i can check for you on an actual car over the weeken with calipers and let you know.

We still don't have Ecotec engines in my country.

Thanks a lot for your help.

Hey Event do you have any notice about this topic? Outside diameter could be useful too.

Ian, the measure you are talking about, 2 3/4", is at TB mouth? or at the "S" tube opening near to the IAT sensor? I mean in the opening of the
"S" tube before the yellow circle (IAT sensor) in the Event's pic, where the coupler is located or between the yellow and the first red circle mark in my pic.

Thanks a lot for your help.

Also if the tube is some kind oval, circunference could be useful too. That way I can imagine how much would be the inner diameter.

Thanks again,

the pipe is 3 5/8" x 2 3/8" inside measurements , the tube is the same size at the air filter box attachment

the tube appears to be the same size or close to tell it rolls over at the location near the air filter box , the belows are the same inner size or very close to the measurments i gave above
