works wonders now. a fellow .org memeber with a 96 z24 i been e mailing back and forth about the gm s/c told me to try this.
The directions tell u to cut the map sensor signal wire(green) and run one end to the simulator and one end back to the map sensor plug. That will cause a .4volt map sensor signal drop and your car will run like crap. Mine did and so did others. So i got fed up and said forget it and cleared the EGR code each time i started it up.
what u have to do is just butt splice the egr simulator wires in. the White wire goes closet to the map sensor plug. not even a .1volt drop is noticed.
I called zz performance and let him know this fix, in case some other people find it and try it for that dont have a grand prix and experience problems.
You dont know how thrilled i am now. No CEL, no bogging, no random stalling. I just took the car down the road though, so the real test will be in a few days to see how it is and i will report back. But the guy who told me about it has about 200 miles on his car now and no issues.

didnt work for me, and also didnt work for another 96 2.4 guy. drove not even 20 miles and the egr flow insuffecient something or other came up.
is it still working for you?
i hate the EGR, i hate it with a passion.
only thing left to try is to swap wires around/ black and white. or cough up the $ and see if the Jbody performance guys would re work the ECU.
so the middle wire is the signal wire for the map sensor. green right?
arggggggggggggggggggggggh.
i wish i had a 99, or a 97 or 98 z24 so i can swap over to a 99 ecu. or better yet a 2k plus so i can have a s/c reflash.

I have the pin outs for the 96 and 99..... all you have to do is cut the end of the harness off a 99 (or 97+) and splice it into your harness. Takes some solder, heat shrink tubing, and time.
It might seem hard, but its just time consuming.

Too hard for me. Might mess with it some more/ the other guy i talk to with the same problem as me is going to try some other ways.. Next step is a Jbody performance reflash and perhaps there some boosted program on it too. Waiting on some replies B4 i spend that $ on it.

hey brian, what exactly are you refering to with the end for the eu? ive got a 97 and my buddy chris, sunfigter, did a 99 program in his car and he ended up having to ad a wire or two for the knock sensor i believe and other than that things were good. is that more or less what your getting at or?

the 96 has a 3 plug harness, the 97+ ecm wont plug in, so you need to cut the end off of a 97+ harness, and splice it in to the 96 harness. You will have to add a couple wires......

ok cool thanks. and i guess theres no way a tech II from gm can reprogram the computer to elimate the egr without having to mess with the harness?

i have the same problem... i have a 96 Z and i have the 2.3HO on there with the EGR simulator and i have a Map sensor low input CEL because the EGR is tapped into the wires..and my car runs like crap..
is it possible to get a grounding kit or run a stronger ground or power wire to the Map sensor or something so it works normal?
Well, what do you know, Here I am with the SAME problem. Does anyone know the fix? And for the one listed above about using butt connectors do you mean these type:
'cause if not I would really like to know how to try that. Also, What about soldering? Does that work? Any other ideas? There are enough people on here that someone must have it working without swapping to the 99 ECM.
i just have my EGR sim unhooked and it runs great...i tryed soldering the wires instead of using a connector and is till had a problem
if anyone has a solution to this so i can get rid of my check engine light then im listening
