just woundering how your swap went im going to the junk yard to get this engine, any advice on what all i should get and any info to make the swap less complicated would be great. thanks
swapping the entire motor isnt the way to go, the HO runs on the OBDI system and the 96 and up 2.4 run off of OBDII, to swaping over the full motor would be a huge undertaking. Parts, on the other hand can be put on the 2.4; like the head, intake mani, and exhaust mani, oil pump swap. if you wanna keep your head convert the mani and swap the cams. lots of options but, the whole motor isnt a good one.
Huge undertaking
The swap is easy.
You don't even have to swap the wiring.
What you would be looking for:
-Ecm
-Tranny
-Axle
-Engine and tranny mount
-Radiator and Hoses
-Downpipe
The radiator would be a good upgrade since the Ho tend to get hotter. The axle, well, spare one are never too cheap. Plus, the ho use a 2 shaft desing.

wrong, you do need to swap the wiring... the OBD1 computer has different sensors and in some cases more sensors.... like, 2 coolant temp sensors...
ohhh and the pinouts arent the same
you don't need a new harness. Ask Protomec. You have to repin it tough but you don't need the new harness. The 2.3 doesn't have sensors that the 2.4 doesn't use. You have more sensor plugs on the 2.4 harness but you just don't use it when you repin the harness.
It as been discuss before you were a member.

ohhh what about swapping the PCM from a HO Quad 4 into a 2.4.... would this be do able?
it's possible. You would have to repin the harness for the Ho ecm but it would work. you wouldn't have any governer and a rev limiter of 6800rpm. advance timing, better fuel curves.

sweet im goin to the junk yard to get one of them engines today. hope i can find one
if you can...get a 92 motor...lil easier on ya haha.
Gilles is right...it's really not that hard...an easy way to go about it would be to get a 95 2.3 harness...from a manual...but good luck on that...those are kinda rare...
you'll have to splice the connectors for the fuel injectors...but yes...protomec can help, he helped me figure out how to do it...although I never did it.
i am really interested on what was said about 'repinning the harness' so there would be no governor and new rev limiter. i have a 96 2.4 Z. what do i need how do i do it? would appreciate it, thanks
