hey yall. since the last time i posted well my engine has gone to the dumps. i dont know what is wrong with it and it starts only when it feels like it. i have taken it to get checked and they found nothing wrong with it. i bought a bottle of seafoam and added it thinking it would help but no the car worked fine for like a day and started to mess up again. when it is working right it has no power at all and it wont go over fifty miles and hour.my friend has a semi built 2.2 engine and manual tranny off one of his 96 or 97 cavalier with 114,000 miles. the engined has internals done and some bolt on mods and i want the manual tranny. he still has the wrecked car so i could get whatever i need. he is selling me the complete materials needed for the swap for five hundred . so would the engine and tranny just drop in? parts wont be an issue because everything is there for me to get. should i get it?
Before you go that route... have you checked for:
1) Dirty air filter / blocked air supply
2) Faulty spark plug or connection
3) Dirty fuel filter or sporadic fuel pump
'99 Z24, Manual
fuel filter or compression test?

yea ide always take a free engine and tranny....
but you should check the above listed things first... what exactly is it doing/not doing...?
any abnormal noises?

I had one that was acting like that and the catalytic converter was broken and sometimes the brick would move and block the exhaust and no power. it would go something like 35mph...
yeah but should i get the engine? that engine is way faster than mine and i want to lose the slushbox automatic that i have and he took good care of that car for a the time that he drove it. plus i dont have the money to invest to make my car as fast as the engine he is selling me and i have the money to pay for it but he will let me take it half and the other half later. he only wants 500 because he needs the money to finish his turbo kit for his 2.4
