There is no horsepower gain from removing the A/C other than wieght lightening.

Well, maybe a little. You have another pulley you have to go around. This pulley has some friction (how ever little it may be) putting a drag on the engine. And the weight of the pulley.

And I believe you have to have your 609 liscense to work on A/C systems. Which I have

And Just so you're aware: If you disconnect one of those A/C lines without discharging the system, you run the possibility of freezing your hand (and other good stuff ).

Yeah, but in order to replace it on the 2.4, you replace the pump with an idler pulley, so no gain there.

Taking out the condenser. So there is a straight shot to the rad. Or just gutting everything out. Prob 30-40 pounds of stuff.

Good job!

I didn't have NO liscense when I remove the a/c system from an 89 tercel. That doesn't mean it's legal.

the condensor is a joke to remove-its easy as pie-trust me, ANYONE could figure it out

as for the belt tension....im installing my external oil pump there-so im not having to get a delete pulley or idler etc etc

Just one tip, if you do remove it and have no desire to put it back in, a/c condensors, evaporators, and compressors go for big cash so don't do a hack job, keep it neat. any shop that does a/c will purge your system for you. if you do it yourself, just be friggin careful, wear goggles, as long as it's 134a i believe the proper proceedure for disposal is to vent it into the air, not the case for 12 though.

When using the delete pulley is the stock belt used or is a different belt called for?

Well...as far as removing it goes, the first thing you'll want to do is take it up to Jiffy Lube or VIOC (valvoline equivalent) and have them vacuum out the lines. Once this is done its just a matter of removing the hardware.

I had to delete the ac on my z24 clone donor car (swapped in a LD9) cause base 2.2l's didnt come with it. I took the tensioner off and ran a strait 345k5 belt with some washers under the alternator, no squeals or problems and its been about a month.

wow.. back from the dead

ecotec engines don't need a delete pulley, just a smaller belt.

its easy.. loosen bolts, take the crap out, vent the system before hand(make sure nobody's watching).

its def a good 40lbs at least.. so far as power increase? eh maybe due to reduced weight.. but the extra room under the hood is awesome

and don't think girls will wanna ride in your car during summertime either.. better have a daily cruiser with a/c for the ladies

Gerkn just did an A/C delete and he said it helped. it freed up space and lost some weight. as for the belt just get one from gm thats for cars without A/C. for how to do it ask Gerkn.
