Too much under driving detrimental to chrging sys?

I read this and just need it explained, Too much under driving can simply be detrimental to your charging system’s health? Does this mean if I get the unorthodox racing under drive pulley and the aem alternator pulley I will have troubles with electrical? Will the battery not fully charge right?

I couldn't run both of those pulley's at the same time.... battery would not charge properly.

We could... PUSH it across the finish line...

So what should I do, I see conflicting arguments. Should I get both or just the under drive crank? Is it a different gain with both?

my friend had the rsm under drive on his 2.4 , and with it being a auto it wouldnt charge at idle , if the rpm was held to that of the 5spd it would charge

ive got the 2.3 HO crank , and little larger alt pulley , and havent had any real problems with them on my auto trans , but i dont have a system either

I dont have a system, no amp or anything. I plan on upgrading the components but thats it, I do have a clarion VRX925VD Dvd player but that shouldnt hurt it. hopefully my batt doesnt die every day.

his didnt die everyday , but if he didnt catch the volt drop fast enough sitting at idle it would die on him

right now we put the stock pullies back on his , he had to make a trip to cali and he didnt want to have any problems on the trip

If you plan on getting an amp, I would stick with the UR pulley. You will see more gain with the crank pulley over stock and it should save your electrical system. If you thinking of amping those components, stick to one pulley unless they are just lightened (not underdrive). If they are merely lightened, I am not sure on how that would affect it. It is actually one of the posts up here (titled "another pulley question"). Check that one out to see if they ever answer that question.

I'll have a sig someday....................

I bought and ebay underdrive pulley on my 2.4 and with my 600watt amp and sub i don't notice a damn bit of difference. Not much faster though. May rev quicker but i wouldn't be suprised if i only gained 2 horses.

word.

factor your rpm drop at the alternator, with the flywheel pully being say a 25% underdrive that means speeds are 25% lower, now add another 15 to 20% for the other pully on the alternator, this means your now 45% under driven at the alternator which means unless your car idles at 4000rpm your not doing much charging now are ya? probably more like 2000rpm would start the charging but you get the point. One pulley only, crank will net more gains and can lead to longer accessory life, but you gotta be careful with that stuff or you'll underdrive everything to much and cause conflicts such as the alternator one, basically any under drive pulley on the crank will be beautiful, besides if you take away that much power from your system your car will be slower, the car needs some juice to charge the coil packs and fire properly, i had an older talon and when the battery was dead(happend a few times) and the headlights were on the car wouldnt run past 55, it physically stalled there, stuttering like crazy and backfiring and going nuts....my cavy battery died and my car refused to run period, i have a redtop now and the car actually feels alittle more revvy than before and my system hits harder.
