if you are bidding on this item
tb do yourself a favor and stop
the opening is stock sized IE NO PERFORMANCE GAINS
SO SAVE YOUR MONEY
thank you
this has been a public service announcement brougt to you by me
i like the picture where he is holding the Tb closer to camera to give it the ilussion it is bigger then the one on the car.

Description
Throttle body for a 2000-2004 Saturn Ion (Ecotec Engine) that has been bored out to 68mm at the mouth and tappers down to the plate.(Stock is 58mm)
so its still 58 mm plate, but bored thin near the top 68mm, like most all TB, then tapers down to a 58mm plate.
venturi effect is one thing, bottlenecking air is another. ever try pouring water out of a 2 liter soda bottle upside down?
yeah that one is a waste of money.
i got my tb from riva22 (i think thats the name.) His is good if you need a bigger tb. Its bored out with a bigger plate too (62mm).
MUFFINS IS BACK!!!

This may not be what everyone is used to in the way of a performance throttle body, but tapered bored carbs were a performance trick on English sports cars using SU carbs. My 1.25" SUs taper bored from 1.5" down to 1.25" idled really lumpy but the midrange and top end were noticeably improved. Velocity stacks on my motorcycles were taper bored also. It may or may not improve airflow on these cars, but it can't really be claimed to be a waste until it's tested. Other than just boring out TBs to a larger size, maybe taper boring them as well could improve flow.
the opening is stock
so your not going to get more air
its going to flow what it needs
its not big enough to make a difference
if it was an intake that was tapered maybe
carbs does not equal fuel injected.

I bought one of these and I am waiting until my K&N typhoon arrives to install it. Then I will take it to the dyno. I think some of you are pre-maturely bashing this product for the wrong reasons.

Completely difference process going on here, a bottle chugs when upside down because there is a vacuum in the bottle and the pressure cannot equalize. This is a false analogy in this case with the throttle body because there is no vacuum involved. The pressure on the inside of the bottle is less than what it is outside the bottle, in the case of the throttle body, the outside pressure is higher than the inside pressure.
Also to cure up some other false information about this throttle body, the opening of the throttle body is 68mm and then it tapers down to 58 right where the plate is. The backside where it attaches to the intake then is also bored out, so basically you have the design of a slight hour glass. That is the same design used in some carbs, and it doesn't matter whether it is fuel injection or a carb, technically speaking the same principle applies.
The purpose of the design is not to swirl the air like the tornado.
I am keeping an open mind on this product, once have installed my intake and TB I am taking it to the dyno, if it yeilds more than the average intake then we will know whether it is giving any positive performance results. If it doesn't work I will just take it to my local shop and get them to bore it out and I will have a nice 62mm TB that tapers out to 68mm on the top.
I payed buy it now 150 bucks, much cheaper than other solutions like RSM if it works, and I still got to keep my stock TB, and there is a 50 dollar rebate if I want to send the old core in but Im just keeping it. So no sense in denying anything until it is tested, I have yet to see any good reason or examples as to why its not going improve performance.

Note that the shape is necessary on a carb in order to produce the low pressure zone that draws in and atomizes the fuel. There's no such need with a TB.
And if you take it to be opened up... they're going to have to fabricate you a new throttle plate to fill the gap.
I suspect that's exactly why those guys are making them the way they are. It's not for any BS performance reasons. It's simply because they can just bore out the stock TB and then sell it, without having to do any other fabrication.
I'm sure there will be some gain with this thing, but not as much as you'd get with a properly opened up one.
My God! Event came back from the grave!!!!
