Ebay intakes...
Wednesday, April 20, 2005 11:22 PM
I am just starting to mod my 04 cavi and I think I am gonna start with an intake. I do not wan't to spend 200 bucks on something like aem or injen when it is just a pipe and a filter so I am looking at ebay. All I have been able to find on ebay for cheap intakes is ones for old cavaliers or ones that say they work for 04's but 2.4l when 04's are all 2.2 eco's. I have also looked at a cosmo racing intake but it says on their website that they are out of stock for the 04 eco. Has anyone gotton a cheap one of ebay for their 04 and if so what company was it from otherwise will the ones that say 2.4l for 04 work on the 2.2l. any help would be great thanks........

I really have never liked cheaper intakes at all. My RSM intake on my 2.2 OHV worked great and was very loud. With cheap intakes you get a cheap filter that will let more dirt in your engine. Also don't forget that those cheap intakes are sometimes not fiting just right on things. I would really save up and find a name brand on ebay. My Girlfriend got her AEM for her 2.4 for like 119.00 shiped or something really close to that. I hope this helps.

Sorry but my cosmo came with a very nice filter, no problems at all people are very picky and think that name brand=quality but the simple fact is I have seen $200 AEM intakes have brakets break as well as cheap bombz intakes. I guarantee you one thing when you hit the dyno with a more expensive intake you will be sadly dissapointed you didnt just get a cheap one, you'd be better off getting an intake and cheap crank pulley than just an AEM intake.

I had a ebay intake and as far as I was concerned it did just the same or better than most brand name intakes. if you want a better filter just swap out the one that comes with the bomz and put a K&N one

Well for most companys like AEM for example test and retest there intakes on cars. Lots of testing and other things are put in the mix about where to put this and what goes there. Also some companys dyno cars, and try different things to make it flow right of us. Most ebay intakes are fake "name brands" that sometime need to dill holes, or even buy extra things to work right. What I think is funny is why didn't you just get a ebay header or other parts that are fakes unlike your mods list most things are "name brand". You are a joke and I don't get why you ahve a name of coldairintake when you have a warm air intake.... Nice dude really nice.

So why buy an intake that the filter cost the more then the whole system? I would just pay some more for something that comes with one that flows better. Waste of money if you ask me. It is like going to AutoZone and makin' a Civic intake work on it.

Brad, I've had my fair share of both name brands and home-made intakes and I must say that by far the best one has been the Rksport WAI. I know that its expensive but, the gains were very noticeable and it sounds great. I even get better gas mileage. IM me sometime and I can give you a sound clip of it on my eco.

i bought an ebay intake, it worked great, only like 40 w/ship. didn't want to pay around 200 for a piece of pipe and a cone filter!!! don't know if there's any noticeable difference with a "brand name" intake.

Well let me put it this way. One of my friends that ownes and makes intakes for the 3.8 engines had one made of Alum and of Plastic. Can you guess which one made more power at the dyno on the same car? Well unlike what you think the Plastic one was flowing better then the other. It just shows that the intakes can differ just with the same intake. If you where to put my RSM 3" Alum intake you will die how much louder it is when I get on the car. With my intake and only exhaust going to the bash in 02 I was gettin' 500 miles to the tank. pretty nice huh....

I got 486 to a tank on the highway.

I dont care what anyone says, Your an idiot of you spend upwards of 100$ for an intake. Get a "AEM" or "ICEMAN" or something and get yourself an ebay intake. Id put 20 on it if you had a decent filter that the power would be the same.

There has been WAY to many posts on this anyways. Where is Event when you need him. Wait....i havnt seen him post in like months...whats the deal??

i have a ebay intake, hell it's for a 2.4 and it fits just fine. yes i had to drill a hole and bend the bracket to fit. and on the inside of the elbow i had to smooth the sharp edge so it would flow better. but i only paid 40bucks for it.and if a AEM makes 2 or 3 more horse power who cares but i dont think it will make any more power. and if it did make more power you just paid 160bucks more for a horse of two. not worth it to me when i could spend that extra money on suspension or 2 new azenis. or dinner and a movie with the wife

see ya!

I did that Works great.

$25 for intake, $20 for filter. And its a cotton filter, jsut like K&N's. Ive washed it twice and its still holding up extremly will with no signs of anything falling apart or anytihng liek that. All the filter material is still in great shape and Im confident nothing's gone in my engine.

Wow some people need to chill out this is about peoples opinions and if you read the thread and many others like this thread the overwhelming opinion is that ebay intakes are very good, I got the parts that I did because I found good deals and decided to go that route as for my name I didnt even have an intake on my car when I signed up have you ever considered maybe I had it on a different vehicle and wow your resorting to making fun of the name coldairintake thats really going to get you respect around here your just another punk who no one likes on here so do us a favour and shut your mouth.

OMG you really need to learn who you are talkin' to. I'm not some little punk kid, nor do I need shut my mouth. Just cause you don't think a name brand intake can help over some ebay intake. I was just proving a point and you are yet to prove anything. You could always just put a filter on the stock plactic tubing. That is a great intake.

sorry guys, i'm going to have to agree with TRD cavfire, and also from personal experience, i've had both and i like the aem alot better, plus when i pop my hood, i don't have an intake with three different colors on it, now i'm not saying you shouldn't buy an ebay intake, but my personal experience is you get what you pay for.

ps. in the end, go with what you think looks good and what you like, because thats all that really matters.

Okay forget the petty stuff but I do not see how you have proven anything at all.... I stand by the simple fact an intake is an intake and until you post a dyno sheet of a bombz or cosmo intake vs AEM you have proven nothing at all.

I'm sure we can do the dyno on the Auto Z with and without intake, but I will have to go buy a stock airbox. Cause I dont' have a box on any of the 3 J's we have. So we can do the AEM you go spend that money you saved on your intake to prove me wrong.

Re: Ebay intakes...
Friday, April 22, 2005 5:52 PM
I actually really would like to see if there is a difference, I want to dyno once I get my cams in maybe I can find someone in my area with an AEM intake and borrow it for one run just to do a comparison its not close to stock but none the less it would still be a good experiment. I think this needs to be done we get millions of intake posts on the org and this could settle the debate finally. BTW its prolly cheaper to just buy a bombz intake than a stock one again lol.

Man, this is one sad thread. I read the entire thing and all you guys have done is sat here and had a pissing contest. Just let it go, I mean really...Look at what you are aruging about...A freakin INTAKE!!

There is nothing wrong with someone trying to make their own intake, or trying to find a cheaper one. But the truth of the matter is, you get what you pay for. If you don't want to pay for the good quality, then don't. It is your car and your money. Personally, I find it embarassing to show someone a really funky looking piece on my car when I could have dished out a few more dollars and got a good namebrand that works.

And BTW, I have had both intakes..The e-bay one really sucked cause it never fit right, and now I have my RK SPort high flow intake..Well worth the extra cash..

But remember one thing..This is just my opinion.
