stalling and sputtering after HO mani swap??
Tuesday, April 19, 2005 8:35 PM
Hello I installed an HO intake manifold last saturday but after a week of driving I am having trouble with the car. It ran great for a week but now it is very hard to start and when it does finally turn over it bearly wants to run but then it will idle fine untill I give it gas, then it will stall and sputter and try to die. It does not throw a code. I am having a bad time with it and I was wanting some advise. I think that it is the gasket that I used for the mani that is causeing it, I just wanted to make shure before I go tearing into it and that not being the problem. also i am using a 2.4 tb and an egr simulator and I have triple checked the vacuum lines and sensors. any adive would be great.

unplug the EGR sim and see if that does anything.

spray cab cleaner around the gasket areas, if you have a vacuum leak there it will raise the RPM when the extra fuel(carb clean) is sprayed in. It shounds like a vacuum leak to me. i would just spray the whole plenum area.

I also tried that and nothing really happened.

Hmm... I'm not really a performance guy but i'm a good drivabilty guy. Does the Ho plenum not have egr and is that why you are using a simulator?

the HO does not have an egr valve hook up and yes that is why I have a simulator. I just pulled the mani off and I am going to try a new gasket.

my buddy had the same problem. he just had two vacuum lines switched around. a two second fix, and it ran fine.

good luck.

well I tried switching vaccum lines around too but sadly it did not help. for some reason it took me a long time to install it but only about 15mins to pull it, I guess its cause I knew how everything went. I will try to install it again tomarrow and see what happens, thanks.

I know this sounds crazy... but switch the #2 and #3 injector plugs around. This happend to me and I ran it down to that, switched them and things were perfect.
