Extremely. The only way your going to make much more power now is either though forced induction or nitrous (neither of which are reliable on a 2.2).

well first i need you to try the word to or too and your not going to get much in performance gains that are cheap...but you could get pullys (around $100) motor mounts ($65) transmission mounts a header (if you get a header you should/need to get motor mounts so the engine dosnt move and break the "flange" if thats the right word

Follow my registry for a 2.2 to build it bulletproof

LowFire has a good plan, looks like he did his research. The turbo is not cheap, by any means, but is the best for making serious power out of these motors. The next best thing would be a nitrous system, you would still need a strong bottom end with it but is going to be "the best bang for the buck".

Check out my registry for my engine mods, I'm running naturally asperated. Nowhere near as fast as F/I or nitrous, but it's good for N/A. My problems are now with getting the 3sp auto to work at the new power band. On your tranny look at getting a better clutch and read through the posts on the transmission forum about your tranny, I believe the 5sp from that year might need some strengthening of the differential. More gear in the diff might help with most modded engines, the power band moves up and you'll need the gear to go with power band.
