My and i put a turbo on his 99 2200. It runs strong but like it should. what else should we do to make it run better?? Maybe Intake manifold, TB, TPS?
it help us a great deal if you would share more info. like what else is done to the car
Im a Xbox 360 fanboy...and damn proud of it!!
well if you just have the turbo, then anything else you do to it will make it that much better. And with the turbo, then engine has to be able to breathe.
ok the car is just a stock cavalier. the only thing that we have done is the turbo. The thing is that he just messed the motor up. he let it over heat and it was shoting water out of the head bolts when he would turn it over. I have just pulled the motor apart. and the head seems to be fine. The wired thing was is that all the front head bolts were really really loose. and all the back ones were tight. dont make sence. also the gasket dident look like it was leaking. so i dont know we are going to get a new head gasket and put it all back togeather. i just want to know what else we should do to it before we i put it back togeather? Like A new intake manifold and TB. Where whould i get this stuff. also where can i get the computer tuned/reprogramed and how much does it cost?
Thanks Rickie.
def need exhaust. anyway do a search ull find wut u need.
first thing to do, is go to the
BOOST FORUM
That aside, the main thing a boosted anything wants to do is TURN UP THE BOOST!! But you need to prep the engine to do so, or you'll kill it real fast. It would be really nice though if you had gave some info on your set-up. If you decide to take it far enough, you'll also need to prep your transmission and get some better driveshafts. The info on those is available, just use the search button, esp in the boost forum. Now for your engine, before you turn up the boost.
1. Forged pistons(probably will want lower compression pistons too) and other internals too.
2. Do you have a good intercooler? If not get one.
3. You're gonna need to upgrade your fuel system. You wanna run way richer during boost as to prevent pre-detonation. You don't have to run quite as rich though if you have a MSD programmable ignition to retard the timing(which is nice to have anyways). That's the way I'd prefer myself, but most just opt to dump fuel in as to not predetonate.
4. You may want to upgrade your cooling system.
Now as far as performance, besides just turning up the boost.
1. Bigger T/B - consider one much bigger than you would want N/A. But there are limits to what you can put on that manifold, which brings me too...
2. Intake manifold - Besides the T/B limits of your manifold, it's limited flow could definitely use some help. However I don't think the 2200 intake manifolds can be ported(correct be if I'm wrong). Some people make their own custom, but that's far out of the reach of most people's ability and knowledge. But you can always buy this...
<img src = "http://www.hogansracingmanifolds.com/images/pic09.jpg">
http://www.hogansracingmanifolds.com - Pricey but quite nice. Definitely worth it IMO. That manifold is for the older 2.2, but I'm sure if you tell them you have a 2200, they can do the head ports a little different.
3. Bigger exhaust - with a turbocharger - bigger exhaust is better, end of story. There is no such thing as too big with a turbocharger, just too big to fit, and too noisy(if you're street driven). An exhaust dump is a nice option too. There are even electicly operated ones available to open and close on the fly.
4. Intercooler - Turbochargers heat up air A LOT, so you need to cool it off to both prevent pre-detonation, and to make the air just that more dense(its already compressed). Some people spray water or compressed Nitros Oxide on their intercooler to make them more effective. Alternatively, you could use a
aftercooler More expensive, but hey you get what you pay for sometimes.
5. MSD DIS 2 ignition - will help some, and if your have the programable one, you can retard timing under boost
I'm out of time, gotta go...
I've never heard of this "part throttle" before. Does it just bolt on?
