I have a 2004 cavalier and i was wondering which type of intake i would be best off with. The only other performance thing ive done to my car is a cat back exhaust. Iv'e heard that a cold air is better but whats the difference between the two and what would you guys recomend for me? Its a daily driver if that makes any difference. thanx for any help
i dont think there really is a difference. that "cold air" intake aint going to do much when its 90 degress out. despite what some think, the air under the hood does move around.
so i dont think there is a difference. people see cold air and thinks its automatically better when its really not. but that is just my opinion
Im a Xbox 360 fanboy...and damn proud of it!!
CAI are alot quieter, than warm air. With the short rams, you can hear more engine noise when accelerating since the filter is like right there, closer to you.
i luv it. thats why i want a WAI. i can here that. my friend has this b16 civic. i love the growl from his intake.

Id say go for the cold air, it will make a slight differance on the track, and you can still hear the engine just not quite as loud as a short ram.

I've had both an AEM Short Ram and an AEM CAI on my 04 Cav, not much difference in performance, maybe a slight bit better with the CAI, but nothing major. As for the noise, I prefer the sound of the CAI as it has a slight whistle to it at high RPM.

don't forget too that if its your daily driver and you live somewhere where it rains and/or snows a decent amount your filter is that much closer to the ground. meaning water heading for the inside of the engine.

yeah if it gets completely submerged in water, just don't drive through puddles more then a foot high, common sense
....my cai was actually louder than my wai I run now...had the rk cai, and it sounded like a turbo when I let off the throttle at 3k rpm. Sometimes it would "pop" too, sounded like a backfire, lol.
To tell the truth, butt dyno told me sometimes that the cai felt a lil more powerful, but I get a tiny lil better throttle response from the wai, since there is less travel for the air. Honestly, I switched to a wai because I GOT TIRED OF CLEANING MY CAI FILTER EVERRRRRRRRY SINNNNGLE WEEEEEK. Damn thing looked like a dragged it throught mud, and I am really picky about keeping my parts clean, lol. My advice is to go with a wai, and if you can save (like i am doing), get an extractor hood, and POOF! The warm air in the engine wont be sooo warm anymore.
...don't hate!.. respect people that have talent, even if it is in something you don't like or understand.

on a nice hot summer day, with the track hot enough to fry an egg..... read stickies.
although, some old schooler's i know would mount a small a/c condensor next to the air filter, they said it was good for about 2/10. but that's on a 383, so i'm not sure what it would do for a j.
thanx for the responses. im think im gonna go with the wai then kuz i live in victoria and it rains alot and i really dont feel like cleaning anything too often lol..
