Searched but no luck. On average, how much would you estimate stock axles can handle (wheel hp). I'm looking to replace them soon but I don't want to do it i'f I'm not going to be making that much power. Thanks

i havent ever heard of anyone replacing them with stronger ones so i dont think you would have to do that... i think they will hold the power.

I know of quite a few J cars that have stronger axles. Your axles will start to become a problem around 250whp/tq. The biggest problem lays in the launch, when the most stress is put on the CV's.

All I wanted was a few hp numbers thrown out, not webistes. I know where to get them if I need them. The point of this post was to let me know about when i'll need them.

are you going to boost your car? supercharger you wont need em more then likely... turbo you will but not until you getting into the 12+psi boost range. other then that i think the only Naturally Aspirated jbody i know pushing the breaking limits of them is Karo (sp?)
Biggest problem is wheel hop.... that is the biggest killer of axles..... along with too much traction as well....
^^^ Yup right on the money wheel hop is the main reason and second would be too much traction. The axles are surely the week link but IMO it does not justify spending the retarted amounts of money on custom axles which only have a 30 day warrenty and can break just as easy as it's been shown in the past. Frank is the fastest j-body on this site and he is using cheap axles
You might break one every now and then at the track but so what...it takes 20 min to swap one out. I doubt you will break one on the street, once you get up in the power department the wheels will just spin and smoke without any wheel hop. I run stock axles and haven't had any problems yet.
Just my opinion of course.

Oh BTW I put down 264wtq and even on hard launches with drag radials and lots of wheel hop I haven't broken one yet but I'm sure that will change this summer. Good thing they are only $25 to replace

Good link...I may look into that when I am putting down more power later on this summer. I like the one year warrenty but really for me it's only one year cause of the winter months but still good none the less. Much better price than DSS too, still kind of expensive but better.

Mine are starting to go, with only a intake and catback for hp increasing mods, (much more comming now!) but I burn out alot and powerbrake it not so much now then 2 years ago when I first got my licence$$$$ (on 3rd tranny) but i am considering it. there arn't any harshness to stronger axles are there like hard turning or anything is there don't think there would be too much different anyways but just wondering

... which is a good reason for a big turbo. more lag = less power down low = less broken stuff
