IAT issues
Saturday, February 26, 2005 8:18 PM
OK, so last week i installed my intake (among other things). while doing so, i lost the IAT sensor so i borrowed a car and ran up to autozone for a new one. Stock was plastic, new one is about 1.5x the size os stock and metal. ok....

so after drilling out the gromet and beating the crap out of it to get it into the tube, i hooked it up and everything was golden....300 miles and a week later, i'm getting a check engine light. i take the car to sutozone to have the code read and IAT is getting high readings (whatever that means). i want to say the code was P0133. but not sure.

so he clears the codes and 10 miles later (same day) its back on. the car doesnt quite seem to be running right...i want to say its rich, but not sure...it doesnt quite feel right and i want that issues fixed. the sensor has a 3mo warranty so i'm going to try exchanging it tomorrow, but any other idea? is it common to get a bad sensor? could i have damaged it during install? is it maybe the wrong sensor? would getting a GM part be better (the one i got was wells)? if so, what's the GM part #?

Also, when i take it out, that gromet is toast...what should i use (stock ube doesnt have a removable gromet, engine is from a 01 grand am)

You have damage it when shoving it into the tube. I would exchange it out.
Also, wells is not know for their quality.

i hope thats all it is. thanx for the feedback on that.

so how do i "properly" inatall it into the tube? like i said, i had to bore out the frommet and even after that i still had to force it in and its nt exactly sitting how it should be. the gromet is right for teh tube but the sensor is much bigget than the hole in the grommet

got the GM part #; its cheaper than the Wells one but I cant find teh reciept and the chevy dealer isnt open until monday. autozone will exchange without reciept but not refund.

even with the GM sensor though, it wouldont go into the grommet. thoughts?

if shoving it in the first time damaged the sensor then shoving itin again would likely do the same. wouldnt oil damage teh sensor too?

UPDATE:

went to autozone. they let me swap out the sensor. also, one of teh wires that connects teh sensor was loose so i made teh connection better and found a PCV grommet for 1.99 that fits perfect. so far so good; i'll keep ya updated.

I had a similar problem one of my wires going to the sensor had a short though

by bro had a broken wire on the sensor and it gave that same code, that was probably your problem. As far as installation spray a little WD-40 on your finger and wipe it around the sensorand the inside of the grommet and twist a little and it should go in.

actually with the PCV grommet, all it needed was a littler persuasion...not a problem at all. just threw my 18s back on and logged a few miles with no issues.

I think you would have been better off with an AC delco IAT sensor
