Just had my dual cat-back from RK Sprort (by Magnaflow) installed today and it smells funy. Smells like something burning; especially noticable when I park in teh garage. Prior to this, I had 2 fireball mufflers welded to stock piping and never had an odd smell.
Any thoughts?
Oh, and currently it is slightly touching the bumper, but i did tat after the fact...the smell has been since the getgo. I have only pit about 10 miles on this new exhaust setup, so maybe its breaking in or something?
Also, its rather quiet compared to what i was expecting, but that will change, right?
No header yet, cone filter on stock piping (intake is on the way). Stock cat.

That is completely normal. It won't do it for long trust me it's because the exhaust is brand new. It'll be gone before you know it.
cool.
as for the sound....what can i expect of that? my fireballs used to set off alarms even with the silencers in.
also, abouve 4k the pitch changes drastically...sound like a loose clamp, but they all seem tight. ideas?

Why don't you post a sound clip, so others who have this can yay or nay your experience.
---
sound will be less then your fireball cans.
I have a Magnaflow setup but with only 1 muffler. and i can tell you its less louder then the fart cans. Im at 10 000kms on it. Never had any problems yet.

get a resonator, if you don't like the sound

...because i really dont feel like gathering the equipment to do the recoding and transfer to my computer.
for the time being, the sound is ok i just want to know what sound changes i can expect before summer so i know whether or not i will need to make changes to my driving habits or exhaust system.

the smell is the oils left on it from manufacturing , my friends did the same thing
one good trip on the freeway , and you should be good
you might want to get hangers made for the mufflers , the solid straps will break over time
or atleast get mounts , that will slow it down some

hmmm...thanx for the tip; i'll have to keep that in mind. right now, i'm using the top and 3rd holes and its sitting right against the actual bumper to keep from dragging on the driveway.
as for those oils, i have class in the morning which is a good 1/2 hour drive each way, of which most of it is highway so hopefully that will take care of most of it.

you would just weld in the hangers and then hang them from the stock position, correct?
no because i have duals. currently they mount to the bumper bolts.

i know you have duals. i have the single from rksport and i also had to have it hung from the bumber. but 97cavie24ls(JDM cav sedan™) said to buy hangers. so i was just wondering.
ive got rk's single , and my bracket broke
what i did was get a rubber hanger with a metal place for a U-clamp , and i clamped the ppe as it came out of the muffler (2 3/4" on mine) and use the bumper bolt to hold the rubber part of the hanger , and the clamp to hold it to the muffler
id take pics and show you , but the car is getting some work done in cali , and wont be back tell later this month
ok well thanx for all the help guys. cant wait until the snow is all gone to get back on my 18s. (in teh last week, i have added my prokit with GR2s and the cat-back and my intake and strut tower brace will be in this week.
last question (i hope)....what can i expect of the change in sound once the system is broken in? will it get louder, quieter, deeper???

My bracket broke on my left one last year after having it for over three years. I think it was not so much of being wore out as it was to the exhaust scraping after coming off steep inclines. A quick weld and it was good as new.
Mine is loud when you first start it up, but once it warms up in gets a deeper tone to it. I have the quad-tip and you have the duals so I don't know if that makes any more of a difference. Now thats its cold my exhaust piping has started rubbing the heat shield. (First time it has ever done that) Anyone know a fix to that besides taking the heatshield off?

i have the dual RK/Magnaflow setup too
it's real nice and deep, as long as i stay under 5k RPM or so....anything above that sounds raspy and terrible if the exhaust is still cold.
one of my brackets broke off, so i had both of them re-welded.. (actually WELDED this time)
i'm pretty happy with it, except that i gotta get it re-hung...it looks mad crooked underneath the car..
Does it smell like fresh vagina?

sure, i'll try and get some taken tonight...mnd you right now, its hung as high as possible and it was a pain to get it there...the exhaust shop said it was a liability to hang it where i have it so i had to move it up myself.

zach what setup did you run with the quad tips? I am tryin to figure if i want this setup or the dual muffler with quad tips, I was thinking of just piecing together an exhaust, but if they make a kit id think about that.
Its the Magnaflow Quad tip exhaust. RK sells it. Same setup as the duals only the muffler and tips are different.
