I only paid $25 for a cherry bomb turbo and it works great on my 04 ecotec cavalier. I gained 2 mph in the quarter mile ( NOW 89 MPH) and a half mile per gallon of gas. It is very quiet with normal driving or on the highway, but gives a nice sporty sound when I step on it and a nice rumble when down-gearing. Most of the gain is in the top end. It now likes to rev. I tried a Fram air hog cotton drop in filter and gained nothing. The factory air filter is very high quality and works the best.
K&n would disagree with you about that, and so would I. Sure, in comparison to a Fram product it might be alright, but then again my jizz sock is a better filter than anything Fram has ever made.

I don't know why anyone would flame me. The Cherry bomb turbo is a new design and it is a turbo with internal deflectors. Plus, the stock cavalier muffler is the same muffler they have been using for a decade( same as what came on my 94 cav. ) and it is crap. The 04 cat looked real nice so I tried a different muffler. I have run it many times and I did get the 2 mph gain. A big difference over 4000 rpm. I now rev it up to 6000. I used to shift a 5600 because it would just sit there. Also, the sound is perfect. Quiet on the highway and regular driving, but sporty when I get on it or down-gear. No vibration drone.
The fram air hog looks just like the K&n, but did nothing. I also tried the Air hog in my Lt-1 caprice wagon and got no gain. I ran them both twice with the cotton and the paper on the same day to be sure. I took them back for a refund. The Gm paper filter has lots of folds
( more paper in the same space) and flows great. I think a cold air intake with cotton filter could give me a little more gain than stock paper, but I don't want to waste time and money playing around with minor mods. I think my next step will be a stage 1 supercharger from rsm racing. ( includes k&n cone filter.)

Bwhahahaha, as if this thread wasnt funny enough.
You just sound like a Spammer. So banning you would be good.
If you're stupid enough to try to make believe a 22000 people crowd that you run 89mph on quarter mile everytime, you need some help.
YOU CAN'T JUDGE POWER GAIN WITH A 1/4 MILE TIME. And that .5 mile per gallon more can be just your foot dumb @ss.
So you go to choise, stick to the newb forum or go f@@k yourself somewhere.

M 04 cav is a 5 speed and had no mods other than the muffler and silverstar headlight bulbs ( they work great to) . I also use mobil synthetic oil. I thought the oil helped it rev a little better and smoother, but the muffler did make a noticable power difference.
However, they only way to be sure is to test it and that is what I did. It only takes about 10 horsepower to get a couple of mph in the quarter mile with a light car and a
5 speed. ( the average car is 1 mph per 10 horsepower) I took the guy at the muffler shop for a ride. He had wanted to sell me a magnaflow. He was really surprised how quiet the cherry bomb turbo was in normal driving, but how nice it sounded when I got on it. I bought it at auto zone for $25. I don't remember the diameter, but it was bigger than stock. I think 2 and a quarter inch. Try it. You will like it.

It is amazing how people want to pretend they are smart by calling other people stupid or dumb. I am a university graduate and I know cars. You are the dumb one by not being able to read correctly. I never said 89 EVERYTIME. Do not try to intimidate me or call me a newbie. I am a very successful person. I am knowledable enough to know the 04's have a great cat. converter, but a bad stock muffler. Anyone who does not know an 04 ecotec can get the best performance increase for the least money with a higher flowing muffler knows nothing. Also, anyone should know that 89 mph is about what an 04 cavilier 5 speed should run with a higher flowing muffler.
congratulations on your 25 $ noise maker....you successfully made yourself think your faster
really? because i've seen cars with full intake, header, exhaust, motor mounts, enlarged throttle body, etc... that aren't touching 89 mph. Some argument can be made for skill, but even if i @!#$ up a launch really bad my trap speed stays about the same. Trap speed is well known to be an almost direct indicator of what kind of power you're making and you aren't getting more than 2-3 hp at MOST out of a muffler replacement with stock cat and piping.
Nice to know you're a university graduate, what did you go for? I'd bet you have a degree in business... impressive, really... Like any clown can't graduate college. Congratulations, you're mediocre!
Well guess what spanky I went to school for automotive tech and this is the @!#$ i do for a living. Cars have been my life for the last 3-5 years so tell me what you know about your muffler that I don't?
Whats amazing is how people like you who haven't even been on this forum a day want to pretend they know something that the 22,000 other people on here don't. If people with a full exhaust haven't picked up 2 mph in their trap speed, expain to me how leaving all of the restrictive factory piping on and just replacing the muffler did it on your car? Now i'm gonna ask you for some time slips.... and i'm willing to bet on one of the following excuses:
1. You don't have a scanner
2. You can't find them
3. Your dog ate them
Am i getting warm here? Maybe, just maybe if you shut up and do some research around here instead of ham-fisting all over your keyboard, you and your "university graduate" brain might just manage to learn something other than how to sound like an idiot.

I have an 03 5-speed Cavy, and when I race.. I shift at 6300-6500. That method (coupled with the fact that the guy probably couldn't drive for @!#$) allowed me to keep up with/have a slight lead on an 04 Mustang GT.

96z24colorado. You are worst than Gilles. You are only repeating what you have heard from someone else. I wish I had your ability to transport yourself to my car and drivers seat. Maybe you have x-ray vision, too. Performance tests have shown that a well tuned stock ecotec produces 167 hp without a muffler ( normally rated at 140 hp ). Furthermore, I have stated many times that this muffler is quiet, but sounds sporty during acceleration. That is what most people are looking for in a muffler. Nice sound with increased performance. Those of you looking for a better flowing and better sounding muffler at a low price ( but probably not as long lasting as stock) should consider the cherry bomb supreme turbo.
MSD my guess would be that you were racing and the GT stang wasnt.....jokes on you not him
If he says he gained 2mph in the 1/4 mile so be it. He was the one who rean the car stock and then ran it with the muffler. How do u guys know that he didn't gain 2mph. Anyways, more power to you man.
really man titus is right, also the only way most of us can tell power gain is runing a quater mile. Times don't lie but dynos can be inacuart from time to time.

well, on the note of the muffler. I have a cherry bomb brank muffler on my 97 and it seems alright? it came with the parts car and that's what i used. Not saying its gives you extra power or what have you but it sounds decent.....

What in the HELL has happened to this website?
Wha tyou can't understand is that 2mph on a quarter mile time is like a fly hitting your hood. You CAN'T proove anything with a quarter mile time. It will vay depending on the condition of the track and each day is different. When you'll learn that maybe you'll be a bit brighter.
University grade my @ss. You know paper and that's it. Most of the guy I saw coming out of university didn't know anything about how stuff works because it was only paper that they worked with. Experience will outrun any kind of school grade.
Joined: Saturday, February 12, 2005 <- noobs are noobs so STFU.
When you'll be able to say something taht is right maybe I will give you credits but now the only thing you proove is that you are a F&F wanna be and believe your freaking butt as a real dyno.
You got no proof so STFU. You can't beat people who KNOW their stuff unlike you.
You don't have enough experience with car and drag race to understand so it's useless to talk to you since you got your head so far up your @ss that you won't see it for decades.
That's my last post in that USELESS thread with the WORST noob EVER.

This article will explain to you how the high flow muffler gave me the extra power in my stock ecotec. Read paragraph 7. http: // www.year2032.com/ecotec.htm

MFK-223. Please read the article. I read it months ago when I was using my education to do research on my ecotec cavalier. I also researched the j body site months ago. The 04 has a great cat and a terrible muffler. http: // www.year2032.com/ectec.htm paragraph 7.
