Alright! Here goes... I recently just bought the AEM CAI for the Ecotec, obviously. I had the RKSport WAI for about 6 months before that. With the the RKSport WAI, I noticed a couple of different things. The throttle response was a lot better and the low end gain was awesome. Throughout the whole rpm band, the gains were all pretty good. I was very satisfied. For some reason, I said to myself why not try the AEM CAI... Everyone else has it and seems to like it... So, about two weeks ago I got it and installed it. The installation was a PITA, at least for me... Anyway, after installing it I didn't really notice a difference at first. It seemed like I was losing a little low end compared to when I had the WAI. My high end was a little better but the only major thing I noticed with the CAI was my upper rpm was a lot smoother! Truthfully, I don't think the AEM made a huge difference. Sometimes I feel like switching back to my WAI. I remember someone on here, as a matter of fact, his name was El Guapo, said "the difference is night and day". I can't agree with that at all, even though he has different mods than me. I basically have everything everyone else has that has the AEM. Anyone feel the same? As far as the sound, I think the AEM is better. The RKSport sounded good but when you got past 3K+ it sounded like the motor was going to blow up... Well, that's it... Thanks
Tony
wow talk about wasting money
You don't think I think about that!? WOW is right!
him wasting money means that the rest of us DON'T have to waste money
thank you sir, your help is appreciated
ps, i put through the order for my rk intake a couple days ago before i even read this.....
but i'm SURE you'll help others, so thanks again
So you guys are saying WAI is alot better for the 2.2 ecotech than CAI. also is there a way to custom make a wai? and where can i find these intake kits for a 2002 2.2 Ecotech. And thanx ecotechnmotion for letting everyone know the truck between the two. Oh and when you said it sounds like ur engine wants to blow up...thats just fromt he intake?

Keep in mind that this "review" is little more than a non-scientific, totally up for debate "This intake soundz bettar yo!" opinion along with a butt dyno. Take it for what it's worth.

I'm not telling you guys not to get the AEM, but from my experience with both, if you already have the RKSport keep it! For the price of the AEM it's definitely not worth it but some people think different. I'm thinking about keeping it on anyway...
when aem dyno'd the intake they used my g/fs cav , and it had the stock intake , and rk's was in a box in the trunk(not sure if they tested with it or not)
the rk sounded better top end , but was really loud
the aem ive ran a constant .1 to .2 tenths faster , and had worse 60ft times , cause of traction and wheel hop issues
i know she wishes we woulda kept the rk , mostly due to being scared about the rain , even with the aem bypass valve installed
as far as companies go that ive delt with , aem is at the top of the list
Alrighty i guess me and my friend will try out the WAI, does the kit come with a K&N...im gonna check out RKSports website. laterz everyone
I dunno I like mine and I live in Tampa fla without a bypass valve -- unless you drive through a lake you have nothing to worry about
Yes, the RKSport intake comes with a K&N filter. It's a nice intake to say the least... As for sound, once again, I think the AEM is better as far as a top end, but low end the RKSport sounded great. It's really loud after 3K+ but sounded pretty good. I still have my RK so I can always switch back. I'm starting to like the AEM more though. I hate the design... The half plastic is stupid but I guess it still works well and I guess that throttle body elbow isn't restrictive after-all or is it!? It definitely looks like it is. The RK elbow is perfect. Oh well... Keep the comments coming.
my rk screamed before.
but with my catback exhaust i think it quieted down a bit.
weird stuff
keith-
my g/f likes to worry a little to much sometimes
the rk intake she had had a S&S filter , not k&n
Ok so let me get this straight, you went from BONE stock to the RK WAI and noticed a gain... ok
So now you jump from the WAI to the AEM CAI... and didn't notice much of a gain?
Hmmm.... are you retarded? this whole review is just a joke. Your comparing your original results which were compared against stock and then taking those modified results and comparing them to another mod. Did you ever hear of a control group? Now if you would have pulled the RKS intake and went back to stock for a week and let the ECU readjust for the incoming air restriction/temp. difference THEN switched to the AEM intake you would have had a more respectable review because you would have been able to compare the differences over stock they each made. Not to metion this whole VS. thing isn't even comparing two similar items, your talking CAI vs. WAI.

She should have no such worries, my buddy has it on right now in the dead of winter, with no bypass valve. We took out his headlight a month ago and being lowered his car packed snow all around it, and there was ice caked on the filter
. We took the filter off and stuck a hair dryer in it to dry it out, and reoiled it. His car is still running and I assure you the filter's been soaked before. The filter may get wet somewhat but there's no way it'll allow huge amounts of water into your intake.
Yes he is a genious

where has event been? i haven't seen him post in quite some time
thanks for your thoughts.
I have the RK intake on our ls sport and plan on keeping it. I thought og getting the AEM one, but i knew it wouldnt be much of a difference.
All I have to say is that AEM CAI is good enough for me. Ran a 15.5 with it last night. So if someone can post what they ran with a rksport then we can compare times a little.
Rodimus Prime wrote:its an intake how much difference can it possibly make
The temperature at which the air is coming in is the main difference. I dont know what the RK Sport intake looks like but I know the AEM one right on the throttle body is a terrible design. It's like taking a 3" pipe then reducing it to a 1" right at the throttle body. Bad design....
