Hi all, as some of you know i wrecked my car but thats not the issue, the point is that i bought a Z24 2.4L manual for racing at the track NO STREET RACING ANYMORE.
that car will not drive on the street it will be for circle track, i had it for cheap.
the question is:
i know its not good for environement but it will just run once a week.
--- i seen that the guy that had it did empty the catalytic converter. i mean the converter is there but its empty so its straight trought.
--- Is it better to run empty or i lose some tork since there is too much flow?!?! or: yeah that guy was smart, cheap mod you dont lose power and gain hp.
well i have don't both and when i ran a hollowed cat the car ran like poo compared to running a test pipe. but yo can cut the ends off the cat and hollow out the cat and insert a straight pipe into it and weld it up. that works well. it looks like you have a stock cat but it flows like a test pipe.
see ya!
if its track only, id pull the whole exhaust system down and run the straightest slightly upsized pipe you can.... being a circle track car, low end power is not as much an issue as high rev horse... and the sound shouldnt be an issue.... only the numbers.
I got the best high flow Magnaflow converter you can get for $46 shipped on ebay, just keep an eye out.
do you guys ever done dyno test before and after having a straight pipe?
Hot Rod magazine does it all the time, granted with much more gasses being produced, but going from a 2.5 inch single pipe with cat and muffler to dual 2.5 inch straight pipe, they generally see 25+ horse.... mind you this is 383cuin and up... and any reduction in flow will hurt power. on a stock 4 cylinder, you probably wont notice it.
i was told by an exhaust shop that u have to have a cat on because without the o2 sensor it will wreck your engine because i wanted to pull the cat off to
I once thounght about exercising but then I laid down until the thought went away
^^ thats why you get an O2 simulator
... all the 2ed or dose if look to see of the cat is working. it has no say as far as fule\timing is conserned. is strictly an emisions item.
at worst youll get a cheek engen light...... and fail emisions if it does come on.
with an rk header. 2.5in back piping and a dynomax muffler ( superturbo ) mine hasent thrown a code.
there for when thay plug in to the computer thay see that is running good.
but then i installed a resonator and the idiot light came on.

What? It's not going to have a damaging effect on your engine. All the 2nd 02 sensor does is tell the pcm that the cat is working properly.
the after cat o2 does nothing other than moniter the cat
THATS IT
well I'm gonna take a guess here but does the second 02 only monitor cat efficiency? Maybe a few more posts of the same thing would help
sorry I'm tired and crabby but geez, not everyone who reads the thread has to post the same thing, I'm sure we all get the idea
ya, the 2nd o2 sensor just makes sure the cat' is working properly.
absolutely the 2nd o2 sensor sees that the cat is working right.
Good thing I dont have a 2nd O2 Sensor then ey?
so if i pull the cat off it will not hurt my engine correct
I once thounght about exercising but then I laid down until the thought went away
What does the 2nd O2 sensor do?

Dude, this is one of the biggest mysteries in the world of j-bodies. No one knows.
LOL at this thread.
I tried it and put the cat back on 3 weeks later. It felt like I gained hp but my check engine light was on, I was running rich cause I had black crud all over my rear bumper which never happened before. I just didnt like it, felt like it was hurting the car more than it was helping it. I wouldnt do it again on a n/a cav with stock computer.

I read this whole thing and didnt understand any of it because everyone kept repeating the thing about the o2 sensor. So my question is...If i cut my cat off and just put a straight pipe in its place, is it worth the gain. I live in michigan so i dont have to worry about emissions but i just want to know that if i take the cat off im gonna get somethin out of it. Thanks
