Wednesday, April 12, 2006 10:39 AM
I need someone to put in my engine for me. I need to get it done soon and im trying to spend under 400 dollars. I am looking for someone that has experience to do it and could possibly have it done over the span of a weekend.
IF ANYONE CAN HELP ME. Or if you know anyone who could help me please let me know.

A few questions:

This is a 2.4 I assume?

Is the old engine out or do you need a removal & re-install ?

When are you looking to get it done?

Where do you live? (i.e. where is the car)

What tools do you have? (i.e. hoist, ramps or jacks, air tools/ hand tools)

Do you have a garage or will this be in the street somewhere?

I am more than willing to help w/ whatever I can willing it remotely fits into my time schedule. Answer the questions above and I'll see about getting a crew together. I'm sure a few of the Texas J's are willing to help.

92CAVQUEST- yes its a 2.4, i need to take out the old one and put in the new one, im trying to get it done just as soon as i get the chance, i live in south irving close to story and hunter ferrel. We do have air tools and 2 jacks at my house, along with ramps.

Juan- Yea i have air tools and sorry im all out of beer

Also i was told that the engine we have is out of an 02 it has all the wires with it. I hope that doesnt create any problems.

hurmmm not sure the 2k and up do not have EGR ... other than the engine should bolt right up.. and also the knock sensor might be a problem to.. might need to switch out the inatke manifold not to sure on that .

I thought that the 99's didnt have the EGR, and what would be different about the intake manifold that would effect it. I know the knock sensor is different, something to do with wires.

I wanted to try to do it next weekend. If i can't find anyone to help me then im going to have to pay to get it put in. And 475 is alot when you only make 6.75 an hour and still go to school.

Anyone that could help i will pay for someone to put it in, im just trying to spend as little money as possible because i have prom on the 13th of May.

Thanks,
aK

Would anyone else be willing to help. I dont really want to pay for it mainly because my hours are getting cut because we have to many people and im getting 50-70 dollar checks for the next couple of weeks so it would take forever to save up $475.

But i would be willing to give free food to everyone who does help. Like maybe do a cookout or something.

Thanks,
aK

I dont know much about switching engines either but i do know how to unhook connectors which makes up a large part of doing a swap. And i know theres alot of people that live in this area that do know how to do engine swaps. And where do you buy this blinkfluid stuff cause i think i might need some of that too :p. But anyone that is willing to help whether you know how to or not. Im sure i can talk my dad into cooking up alot of food if i pay for it.

Also If anyone is seriously interested in helping pm me. Ive been without my car since last august so i kinda miss it.

Thanks,
aK

If we do this you think we could do it on a sunday, if so i will talk to the shop where i work to see if we could use there shop. It would be alot easier then to do it at a garage. I will find out tomarrow if we can use it on a sunday seeing as how we are closed on sundays

you need to see if its everythig is going to fit properly
"the only difference is the knock sensor hole in the block , to use the 99-02 in a 96-98 you gotta drill and tap the hole bigger , and heli coil for the other direction" and the injector plugs are diff... do you have the wiring for the 99 2.4 ? you could change all of that too. but hey just say the day this is going to go down and i will try to make it . theres alot of stuff going on these comming up friday's and saturday's but sundays is good. my friends drag me to every after prom party there is!! and i dont mind either

old thread and all that, but...
since you have the original engine (2.4) and a replacement (newer 2.4), it reads like you'll have all the parts you'd need to deal with any egr and injector issues. i know there was an impedance change for the injectors mid-year for '99. same applies for the egr. early production 99s had it, later ones didn't. hybrid year if you will.
just switch out the intake and exhaust manifolds from the old engine onto the new...done. on your own for retapping the sensor hole, though.

Pist me off. We switched out mine with the same exact year and same model and some of the freakin clips didnt even match up right. We had alot of new clips to put onto the wire harness to get it up and going. Good luck with everything.
